Unseen Colours

How would you describe colour?

What does colour mean to you? Beyond the physical, beyond the visual. What comes to mind when you think of a colour? What feelings does that colour evoke in you? What memories does it call forth in you? What does colour mean to you? It's a question that everyone will answer differently. One person's view of a colour will never match another's. I can't tell you how to see a colour and I can't tell you how to feel about a colour. All I can do is share my colours with you. So, without further ado, these are my colours.

RED

Red is the colour of passion, of life. It's the colour of blood, of the pulse in your veins and the rush in your ears. Red is the drive to move ever forward.

ORANGE

Orange is the colour of warmth. Of soft lighting and low campfires. It's eating a warm homecooked meal surrounded by people you love. Orange is the knowledge that you are loved.

YELLOW

Yellow is the colour of the sun and sunflowers. It's the colour of joy and happiness. Yellow is the colour of a smile and the sound of a laugh.

GREEN

Green is the freshest of Earth. The warm summer days. Green is the way the world smells after a storm, when everything is bright and new. Green is grass stains and new beginnings.

BLUE

Blue is the colour of the sky. It is vast open spaces and endless opportunity. It's the colour of winter and ice. Blue is the colour of a chill.

PURPLE

Purple is the colour of bonds. Of the ties that bind. Of family and friends. Purple is the colour of support and knowing that you are never alone.

PINK

Pink is the softness of love. The shyest of smiles. Pink is taking a chance to see where you'll go. Pink is putting yourself out there and hoping for the best.

BROWN

Brown is the colour of age. Of the old and sturdy. Of things long forgotten and always remembered. Brown is the colour of history. Of stories untold and stories passed down. Brown is the colour of knowledge.

BLACK

Black is the colour of night. The darkest of times. Black is not knowing where you are or where you'll go, but going there anyway. Black is grief and misery and knowing that everything comes to an end.

WHITE

White is a soft colour. It's your comfiest sweater and a welcome home hug from your loved ones. White is your breath fogging up the window as you sit there bundled up in a sweater and blanket with a cup of hot chocolate. White is the colour of peace.

GREY

Grey is feeling stuck. Not dwelling in the past but not moving forward either. Stuck in the moment and completely lost. Grey is not knowing, not feeling. Grey is hopelessness.

Colours are such an important part of our lives. They’re an essential part of how you interpret the world around us. How we see colours affects how we see the world. Our interpretation and view of colour influences our bias to the world. We see a colour and we feel it. How we feel about that colour affects how we see whatever the object that colour is attached to. Our perception of colour is also affected by our traditions and hereditary bias’. Traditions tell us that black is for funerals, so when we wear or see black we associate it with the sadness of that moment. There are so many moments similar to this and all of them affect our colours. So that's it. Those are my colours, how I see them and how they make me feel. My only question now is, what are your colours?
