Have you ever heard the saying, "you don't miss a good thing till it's gone?" or the phrase your parents would say to you as a kid; "don't take the little things in life for granted." Well lately, those phrases have hit home for all of America and other countries. Recently, we all have been hit with a scary pandemic; Covid-19. All so sudden, the world had to learn how to adjust to new ways of living, while also being very cautious about sanitation and the proper ways to keep yourself and others safe.

Due to this pandemic, millions have lost their jobs, children were taken out of school, and the majority of the country have placed a lockdown order in effect, to minimize the number of cases that were being accumulated by this virus. Everyone was told to quarantine if you weren't an 'essential worker,' such as, doctors, nurses, grocery store employees, mail men and women, bus drivers, etc. All of which have families as well. These people are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters and sons, but are working day and night to make sure we; The United States of America, is safe and not affected. All while, they put their own lives on the line for complete strangers.

I have family members who are certified nursing assistants, registered nurses, grocery store employees, Uber/Lyft drivers, caretakers and doctors. Their lives have been directly impacted by this pandemic because they would love the luxury of being home with their kids but unfortunately, aren't able to afford not to work. These family members have inspired me. Their resilience and hard work is unreal and certainly unmatched. In this difficult time, I would like to recognize them. All of which were born in Jamaica and now reside in the United States. I would like to show my gratitude and appreciation aimed at their immense love for people and their new country. Every little bit counts, and you all definitely have paid your dues.

This is a thank you letter to everyone out there making a difference. From the teachers who take the time out of their quarantine days to make sure their students have had enough to eat, the doctors who have been in the hospital for days and nights making sure their clients are being treated and well taken care of, the bus drivers who are making sure everyone gets around; despite the pandemic, the grocery store employees who are sanitizing every cart, restocking the shelves, and still greeting each customer with a smile. We love and appreciate you all. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, especially in times like this.

Lastly, during these trying times, I would like to encourage everyone to look into their local food banks, resource centers, and any other help agencies that you may need. I know staying in the house all day can seem like a drag, but it is very necessary. If you are a workaholic like myself, look for ways to stay active and creative. You may want to search for online jobs or just find a fun activity for you and your family to do. Walks are essential as well. From time to time it is good to get some fresh air while also staying protected. I would advise the public to only go grocery shopping if it is absolutely necessary; and when going, take the proper precautions so you and your family are safe. I have faith that this will be over very soon, and when it does, we will have a newfound appreciation for the little things in life.
