Twisted Passion
Who is Jennie Lyne Hiott?
Passion is not always pretty. It could be a pile of twisted metal, rotating through the air at a fast speed, landing just a foot from where you stand drenched on a wet road, holding your breath, and clutching a heart beating so hard it could explode. Wide-eyed, you stare. You gasp. Your ears filled with hissing and your nose burning from the stench of hot rain and motor oil.
It's in the lead that speeds out of the barrel of a former crime boss's pistol. His target, the last man that threatens the normal life he wants to live and it's in the painted face of the clown, hired for a laugh at a birthday party. Smiling with a balloon in his hand … even after blood oozes from the corner of his mouth, causing party-goers to panic and run without a single, intelligent thought. They scream at the top of their lungs as they dodge the infected freak that wants to make them its next meal. Thankfully, dad has a hunting rifle and doesn't hesitate to put the flesh-eating monster out of his misery.
‘But you're a romance writer! It's supposed to be sweet!’
Come on! The meet-cutes and the happily ever afters can't stand on their own. They need conflict, drama, and a rollercoaster of emotion that makes you swoon on one page, and gasp on the next. The in-between is the true journey. If it can burn our souls and break our hearts, it will stay with us forever and who the hell says you can't add a bit of crime, horror, or even science fiction to a romance story? Huh?
I am Jennie Lyne Hiott and if you've read this far then you might be as crazy as I am. Why am I passionate about writing? Why should you read it?
I'm an unknown. Just a woman who used to be a girl. A dreamer who is much older than what my mind thinks, and my goal is to make you laugh, cry, gasp … curse… all in the same book!
I float somewhere inside that thin line of gray. (When I talk about the gray, I'm not talking about that man that sweeps you off your feet then treats you like the bubble gum he stepped in and struggles to scrape off the bottom of his shoe. I'm talking about the sarcastic snaps and witty banter. Will they? Won't they … Yes! Finally! They fell in love and then … oh no! HOW COULD YOU?) I skate on the edge of reality and fantasy because romance is so much more than rose petals and champagne. I mean, seriously, that gorgeous dude with the electric blue eyes may not even like the main character … at first. Maybe they can't stand each other. Instant sparks have their place, but the journey between hello and forever – ah – that's the good stuff!
Yet, the twists and turns of love are not enough. Not for me. Let's throw these couples into an extraordinary world, Jenithiyah. My vision of what resides within the Bermuda Triangle. In my imagination, I solve that unsolvable mystery. Closed off from our world by tall mountains. One way in and no way out. Where the lost souls survived and created a new civilization as they searched for a way home. An exit that they never found.
The descendants of these lost souls live a life much like our own. Except, life spans are longer and the laws are less conventional, strange, and strict. This place adds unusual obstacles to the story of love. Sometimes subtle, sometimes catastrophic. I can and will write whatever I want. Insane laws, giant waves, crazy weather … maybe I'll create a tribe of hybrid aliens someday. My creativity has no filter, and that's how it should be. Romance should not be chained down by the norm. It can be relatable and strange at the same time.
So, this is my passion. My crazy. Should you support it? Absolutely! Why? Well, I'm not one to sugarcoat it. I don't believe in telling you what you want to hear just so I can win a prize. (This isn't the Miss. Universe pageant.) If you support my books, I can stay home. If I can stay home, I can write more. If I can write more, you can read more.
So come and share my passion. Flip the pages of desire, intrigue, and suspense. Expect the unexpected and ride the rollercoaster of emotion … if you dare.
