Programming jobs are one of the highest-paying jobs available right now. Programming is one of the most crucial skills. Even if you don't want to get a programming job, it's always beneficial to have this skill. You can also use programming to automate redundant and boring tasks you do on your computer.

But the question is:

Which programming language should I learn as a beginner?

In this post, I am gonna list the top 5 programming languages and also describe their use cases.

Python:

Python is the most trending and most popular programming language right now. It is easy to learn and use. And, you can do a plethora of things with Python. It can be used to create the back-end of websites. To be able to create websites, you need to learn a web framework too. A framework is a pre-written program with which it becomes a lot easier to complete your job. Popular web frameworks for Python are Django and Flask.

Moreover, Python can also be used to create desktop applications with Tkinter or Kivy. Tkinter and Kivy are popular Python libraries to create desktop applications.

You can use Python for automation too. Python can be used to do a number of automation tasks. For example, automatically sending emails, scraping data from websites, copying and pasting files and arranging them in their specific folders according to the date, time, or the format of the files, automating WhatsApp, etc. You can also use it to automate MS Excel and a million other things

But, the thing for which Python is most popular is AI ( Artificial Intelligence ) and ML ( Machine Learning ). AI is the most booming field in programming right now. It has one of the highest paying jobs too. Machine Learning is a subfield of AI which is used in search engines, recommendation system of YouTube and other social media platforms, detection of spam emails, etc. If you really wanna get into ML and AI, you need to learn a framework too. Popular ML frameworks for Python are scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Pytorch, etc.

JavaScript:

JavaScript is the programming language that powers the web. If you wanna become a web developer, then you ought to learn JavaScript.

A website has two parts ─ front-end and backend. Front-end is the part of the website that users can see and interact with. On the other hand, back-end is server-side programming, it's the part of the website that users cannot see. And, JavaScript is compulsory if you wanna create the front-end of a website. No other programming language can replace JavaScript in the front-end. You can also create the back-end with JavaScript too. But, in back-end and server-side programming, JavaScript is not the only language and is replaceable by Python, Java, etc.

Aside from Web Development, JS ( JavaScript ) can do almost anything. You can do automation with JS and a little bit of AI/ML too.

And, with electron.js, you can create desktop apps too.

JS is one of the most easiest programming languages to learn.

Kotlin:

Kotlin was developed by JetBrains. It's the official language to develop Android apps. So, if you really like Android and want to contribute to its ecosystem, then Kotlin is the language for you. There are hundreds of applications already using Kotlin for Android, such as Basecamp, Pinterest, and more.

In addition to using Kotlin for Android, you can also use it for web development. With Kotlin/JS, you can develop the front-end of a website. Kotlin/JS allows you to transpile your Kotlin code to JavaScript. And, Kotlin can be used for back-end and server-side programming too.

Overall, Kotlin is a great language. It might take some time to learn it but it's not a very complicated language

Swift:

Swift was developed by Apple. It's a relatively new language. It first appeared in 2014. Swift is easy to learn and maintain. It is an extremely fast language. It's mainly used to create apps for Apple devices such as macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and more. Swift is a great choice if you want to become an iOS developer. There's a huge demand for iOS and Swift developers.

Developing apps for MacBooks and iMacs with Swift is easy too. Swift includes features that make code easier to read and write

Furthermore, you can do server-side programming with Swift too.

C#:

C# was developed by Microsoft in 2000. Microsoft created this language for itself. That's why it's the best language to create Windows applications. Windows applications developed with C# run the fastest and get the best support from Microsoft. So, if you wanna pursue your career as a Windows developer, C# is the best option for you.

C# is famous for developing the back-end of websites too. ASP.NET Core is a very popular web framework with which you can create amazing websites ( only the back end part of websites ).

C# is also pretty popular when it comes to Game Development. With Unity, you can create 2D and 3D games in C#. Unity is a very popular gaming engine written in C#. More than a third of the top games are written in Unity. C# is one of the best options to begin your career as a game developer.

Pro Tip:

Remember! Programming is just a tool to create applications and games. As a beginner, one should never dig deep into a programming language. Instead, try to create applications or games with it. You can never learn a language completely nor you should ever try to do that.
