Top 10 Small Business Ideas to Start from Home

Owning a business will give you the freedom to work whenever you want. If you want to work from your home or the beach, no one will stop you. It is possible to live the laptop lifestyle because of these small business ideas I am going to mention. Here is a list of the best business ideas to start.

1. Start a Print on Demand Business

One of my favorite low-cost business ideas is a print on demand business. A print on demand business is perfect for creative people. You can sell your designs on mugs, t-shirts, phone cases, and more products.

The main benefit of starting a print on demand business is that you do not need any inventory. You can sell your designs on websites like Zazzle, Spreadshirt, and Merch by Amazon. These websites do the shipping for you at no additional cost.

If you want to be in control of your own platform, you can connect with companies like Printful to create your own products. You can use Shopify or Etsy to host your print on demand merch.

If you're not the best at graphic design, you can use commercial-free graphics from a website called Creative Fabrica. Print on demand is one of the best creative small business ideas.

2. Become a Reseller

If you're looking for a small business idea from home that you can start with the stuff you have around your house, becoming a reseller is a good option. You can start selling your clothes, shoes, home decor, or anything you would sell at a yard sale online. Websites and apps like Poshmark, Mercari, and eBay allow you to get rid of your junk or clothes.

If you are into fashion and retail, you can buy clothes and items to resell from stores like Goodwill, Gabes, or local yard sales. If you want to buy clothes online, you can use websites like Swap to find clothes. You can eventually start your own boutique or website.

3. Start a Pet-sitting Business

Do you love animals or have pets of your own? If so, pet-sitting is one of the best business ideas to start. As a pet sitter, you will be taking care of your client's pets by feeding them, giving them water, and playing with them. You can go to the pet owner's house or watch them from your home. The best way to find clients is to start with your neighbors and use websites like Rover or Care to get started.

4. Sell Low-Content Books

One of the most passive top 10 small business ideas is creating low content books and selling them on Amazon. If your dream was to always be a published author, but you don't want to write, you can create journals, planners, and activity books.

It is not as hard as it sounds. You can learn how to create your own low- content books using Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, or Picmonkey. You can also have someone create low content interiors and book covers for you on Fiverr or use Creative Fabrica. Creative Fabrica has a large selection of low-content books.

5. Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is one of the businesses that I started back in 2016. I believe that it is one of the best small businesses to start from home. You don't have to be the best writer in the world or need a degree. If you can write blog posts or articles, you can be a successful freelance writer. Although being a freelance writer is not that hard to get into, you need a writing portfolio.

You can find writing jobs on websites like ProBlogger and cold pitching local companies.

6. Dropshipping

Do you want to sell products online but, don't have the storage space or money to buy inventory? Dropshipping is a convenient business model where you can start an online store without managing any inventory.

You simply sign up for an eCommerce platform and partner with a supplier. They will store and pack products for your customers. Oberlo is a popular dropshipping company to use, and they can get you started.

7. Self-publish Small eBooks

You don't have to write a novel to become a successful author. If you have a hobby or skill that you can teach someone, you can write a small ebook and sell it on Amazon. The more books you write, the more money you will make. Fiverr is a great place to find an editor and book cover creator.

8. Sell a Course

Selling courses is a profitable passive income business. You create the course once, and people can sign up to take the class. Courses can either be written or video courses. If you have a skill, you can create a course on that topic. You can use websites like Skillshare to teach a video course or Teachable. People will pay money for courses that give them a return on their investment.

9. Social Media Manager

Almost everyone has a social media account. Social media is growing every day, and businesses turn to social media to market their service or product. A social media manager is someone who manages a client's social media account. You will be increasing their following, posting statuses, and replying to messages.

If you want to learn how to become a social media manager, there are free courses that you can take. My favorite is Social Media United by Rachel Pedersen. It is the most comprehensive course you can take about social media management, and it is free. If you find yourself on social media a lot, you can become a social media manager today.

10. Start an Online Greeting Card Business

If you can design and write meaningful greeting cards, this small business idea is good for poets and artists. Before you start selling your greeting cards, you will need software to make the cards. Websites like Photoshop and Canva are easy to use to make some high-quality greeting cards.

You can buy the greeting cards wholesale or create printable greeting cards if you want to save money. Etsy is one of my favorite places to sell greeting cards. Printify is another dropshipping company that you can use to sell greeting cards.

Now that you know the top 10 small business ideas from home, you can figure out which one you would like to do. I hope that these ideas will get your creative juices flowing so you can start a profitable business from home.
