This is Me:

My Writing Journey

For as long as I can remember, books have always been my escape.

In 2005, I started writing at the tender age of fifteen in what I intende to be a diary that I hoped would help me cope with my maternal grandmother’s recent cancer diagnoses. I had hoped that by doing this, it would act as a kind of therapy and help me to work out my feelings and residual grief that I still felt from losing my grandfather four years prior from the same kind of cancer that she was fighting. What I didn’t count on was how boring it was for me to write about my feelings regarding this time of my life. Every day it was the same thing and I got so bored so I started making things up in what became my first book. It was a truly terrible novel with no outline, or clear idea of where I was going and because of that, there were some major consistencies in character design and plot.

But I was only fifteen, so what do you expect? Still, writing saved me from going down a deep and dark whole and it’s been saving my life ever since.

Even though it was god awful, it did the job in helping me process my emotions and provided an escape when it felt like my world was crashing in around me and thus, my love for writing began and I’ve been doing it ever since.

But the story doesn’t start or end there.

Years before I wrote that first book, my single mother worked afternoons and read to me once she got home from work. The thing was, sometimes she would be too tired to finish a single book and would try to skip pages just to get through the book faster. That worked for a while until I got old enough to notice her skipping pages and would make her turn back reading the missing pages. Once I started talking, but before I learned to read, I began to tell the story back to her just by looking at the pictures.

And thus my love for reading and all things related to books began.

While I consider myself to be a romance and fantasy author, I’ll write just about anything as long as the idea is good and I think I can do the story and its characters justice, but fantasy and romance tie for first place as my first love. I like to think of myself as the kind of writer who writes about fantasy and romance that are filled with forbidden magic, fierce heroines, morally gray heroes, monsters and hunters, ancient secrets, and of course the kind of love that absolutely refuses to surrender…even when it seems like the odds are stacked against them.

I joined this platform so that I could share my stories and any advice I’ve learned along the way. If you’re a writer who is chasing your own dream, then welcome. If you’re just a lover of books, then you’re welcome, too.

And of course, if you’ve ever found yourself rooting for the misunderstood villian, falling in love with the monster, or just believing that love can survive even the darkest of magics, then I think you’re exaclty where you’re supposed to be. I konw I am.

I’m so excited to be on this journey with you.

Stories are coming soon.

And of course, thank you for being here at the begining of this new chapter of my life (pun intended).

All my love,

✨Esmeralda.
