The Waiter Who Almost Had Me

Almost...

He came toward me with this kind of energy that is hard to ignore. There was something about the way he moved, the way he spoke, the way he looked at me. It felt intense, almost like being seen after a long time of feeling invisible. The kind of attention that makes you pause and wonder if this might mean something more.

You know that feeling when someone wants you, not casually, but with intention. When you can feel it in their presence, in their tone, in the way they lean in just slightly closer than necessary. It is difficult to describe, but it pulls you in.

He approached me and asked, “Do you need anything?”

It was such a simple question, but in that moment, it did not feel simple at all. My heart reacted before my mind had time to catch up. I felt nervous, slightly overwhelmed, and oddly excited all at once. It had been a while since I had felt anything like that.

He walked past me shortly after, and I stood there replaying the moment in my head. It sounds dramatic, but I remember thinking, quietly to myself, “Maybe this is it. Maybe this is the one.”

Of course, reality has a way of stepping in.

He was a waiter at the hotel I was staying in. And I am a business owner. On paper, it did not make sense. Not because of status or titles, but because I have been in situations before where the imbalance created tension. I have tried to ignore that before, and it did not end well.

Still, feelings do not always follow logic.

A few days later, he asked for my Instagram. I do not even use Instagram like that, but I found myself creating an account just to connect with him. Looking back, that alone should have told me something about how quickly I was getting pulled in.

We started messaging, and it felt easy. Natural. He said the right things, asked the right questions, and seemed genuinely interested in me. Beyond the obvious situation, everything else seemed to align. It felt like one of those connections that just flows.

Then the phone calls started. Long conversations that stretched into hours. We talked about life, about goals, about random things that made no sense but somehow mattered in the moment. It felt comforting. Familiar, even.

For a while, I allowed myself to believe in it.

Then came the shift.

One morning, he said, “I will call you this evening.”

I waited. No call.

I told myself he was probably busy.

The next day, the same thing happened. Promises, followed by silence.

Three days later, a message finally came through. “Sorry, I have been busy with work.”

And that is when something inside me paused. Not dramatically, but quietly. That small voice that tries to protect you started to speak up.

Still, I ignored it.

Later that day, he came to work and messaged me again, asking if I needed anything. He brought something to my room, and in that moment, everything felt intense again. The chemistry was there, the connection felt real, and logic once again took a back seat.

But after that, things changed.

Since then, I have seen him around, but there has been no real effort from him to continue what we started. No meaningful conversations. No consistency. Just distance disguised as casual interaction.

And that is when it hit me.

This was not something real. Not in the way I wanted it to be.

It is frustrating, not just because of him, but because it feels familiar. Another situation where the potential felt strong, but the reality did not match. Another reminder that chemistry is not the same as commitment.

As I sit here writing this, I feel the urge to reach out to him. To ask questions, to get clarity, to try and make sense of it. But instead, I am choosing to write. To sit with my thoughts instead of acting on impulse.

I have been so focused on building, on growing, on creating income and opportunities, that I have not allowed myself to process things like this properly. And maybe that is why it feels heavier than it should.

Because it is not just about him.

It is about patterns. Expectations. The desire to be chosen in a way that feels certain and secure.

And right now, I feel tired.

Not in a dramatic way, but in a very honest way.

Tired of almost connections. Tired of inconsistency. Tired of feeling like I see something that is not really there.

But at the same time, I know this is not the end of the story.

Because every situation like this teaches something. About boundaries. About self-worth. About what you are no longer willing to accept.

Maybe the real shift is not about finding the right person.

Maybe it is about becoming the version of yourself that no longer entertains the wrong ones.

And until then, I will keep choosing myself.
