The Reagan Family Reunion Continues: Will Estes Joins 'Boston Blue' Season 2

The Reagan family is expanding its presence in Beantown. On Friday, Aug. 7, Donnie Wahlberg shared a photo on his Instagram Stories featuring him and fellow Boston Blue stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Marcus Scribner, Mika Amonsen, and a very familiar face. Sitting with them was Will Estes, who played Jamie, the brother of Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods.

Wahlberg, 56, captioned the photo, "Welcome (back) to the family! Jamie Reagan! aka Will Estes!" The announcement sent waves of excitement through the Blue Bloods fandom, confirming that another beloved member of the Reagan clan is set to make a guest appearance on the CBS spinoff.

A Family Affair: The Third Reagan to Reunite with Danny

PEOPLE confirms that Estes will guest star on Boston Blue this season, making him the third Reagan to reunite with Danny on the Blue Bloods spinoff. During season 1, Bridget Moynahan reprised her role as Erin Reagan, and Len Cariou appeared in one episode as the family patriarch, Henry Reagan. Estes' return continues the tradition of bringing the Reagan family together, even as Danny navigates his new life in Boston.

Speaking to TV Line in December, co-showrunner Brandon Sonnier teased, "I don't know that we should say which Reagans are coming, but there will be more, including some you haven't seen on the show yet. And there are other branches of this family tree we're excited to explore". Estes' appearance seems to be the first fruit of that promise, and fans are already speculating about which other family members might follow.

What Brings Jamie Reagan to Boston?

Details on Jamie's Boston Blue storyline have not yet been revealed. However, the season 1 finale of Boston Blue provided a significant clue: Danny learned that Jamie and his wife Eddie's son is named Joseph, after their late brother. The emotional weight of that revelation suggests that Jamie's visit to Boston could be tied to family matters, possibly involving the next generation of Reagans.

Estes starred as Jamie Reagan across all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, from 2010 to 2024. His character, the youngest Reagan son, was a fan-favorite known for his dedication to the NYPD and his strong moral compass. Seeing him interact with Danny in a new setting promises to be a highlight of the upcoming season.

A Single Episode or Something More?

While the excitement is palpable, the reunion may be brief. Reports indicate that Estes will appear in just a single episode of Boston Blue season 2. However, given the show's willingness to bring back other Reagan family members, there's always potential for future appearances.

Estes was seen on set on Thursday and then on Friday, Aug. 7, when Wahlberg shared the now-famous photo. The behind-the-scenes glimpses have only heightened anticipation for the episode's premiere.

What to Expect from Boston Blue Season 2

Boston Blue sees Danny as he relocates to the New England city. While navigating his new home and job at the Boston Police Department, Danny is partnered with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), a member of a powerful law-enforcement family. The series was renewed for a second season upon the conclusion of its first season in December last year.

Season 2 of Boston Blue is set to premiere on CBS on Friday, Oct. 9, at 10/9c. The new season will pick up in the aftermath of the dramatic season 1 finale, and with the return of Jamie Reagan, fans can expect plenty of family drama alongside the police procedural action.

The Reagan family reunion is far from over. With Estes joining the fold, Boston Blue season 2 is shaping up to be a must-watch for any Blue Bloods fan. The circus of the Reagan family is always evolving, and this October, the show is just getting started in Boston.
