The Jonas Brothers Return to Camp Rock: How Fatherhood, Legacy, and a New Generation Inspired the Sequel
As parents, the trio wanted to create something their own kids could watch and a new generation of fans can enjoy.

The Jonas Brothers have found their way back to Camp Rock, and it all started at home.
At the Los Angeles premiere of Camp Rock 3 on Monday, Aug. 10, Joe Jonas, 36, Nick Jonas, 33, and Kevin Jonas, 38, spoke with PEOPLE about why it felt like the right time to return to the iconic Disney franchise. The brothers, who are now all parents, noted that part of the reason they decided to make the sequel was to create something their kids could watch.
"As parents [in the] last couple years, we've been so thrilled to get to partner with Disney on a bunch of different projects," begins Nick. "We're trying to bring things into the world that we can share with our kids and that we can experience as a family."
A Multi-Generational Phenomenon
The Jonas Brothers understand the lasting impact of the Camp Rock franchise. The original 2008 film was a cultural phenomenon, introducing a generation of fans to the brothers' music and launching their careers to new heights. Now, nearly two decades later, they're returning to the role that helped define their early fame.
"And when we look at our shows, what we're seeing is that multi-generational effect of people that were our age in their teens, who are now adults with their own kids, bringing them to shows," Nick continues. "And I think the same thing will happen with this. It's got such a wonderful place in our hearts, and the memories we have attached to it are so real to this day. So to get to bring that to life in a whole new way with this incredibly talented young cast will be really special."
For Kevin, the experience hits close to home. His daughters, Alena, 12, and Valentina, 9, whom he shares with wife Danielle Jonas, were "very excited" to watch the new movie.
"It's really incredible. I just watched it the other night with our girls, and they were very excited," says Kevin. "A little too excited when Malachi [Barton] got on screen, but we're not going to talk about that right now."
Demi Lovato's Return
The Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, 33, will reprise their roles in the third installment, and all serve as executive producers. On Aug. 10, Disney confirmed that Lovato will also return as Mitchie Torres in a cameo appearance. The return of the original cast members underscores the enduring appeal of the franchise and the close bonds formed during the original productions.
Fatherhood and Healing
In June, the Jonas Brothers spoke about fatherhood during an episode of their podcast Hey Jonas. The three brothers were asked by a fan if becoming fathers has been healing for them. When Joe responded, he addressed how he's a single dad and is able to rely on his co-parent ex-wife Sophie Turner to get him through some of the "bad days."
"I think in my saddest moments, I'm able to be reminded quickly that a hug from them can solve the world's problems, in my own world," Joe said. "And I know I'm not hyper unique. There are a lot of people in my situation that are single parents and go through this."
"I'm grateful that I have a co-parent that I can balance even the bad days," he continued. "But I think being able to have good people around me to help me navigate it is really special, and they've taught me that I'll be okay. Even in my toughest days."
Joe shares daughters Delphine, 4, and Willa, 6, with Turner, 30, while Nick shares daughter Malti Marie, 4½, with wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 44.
A New Chapter
Camp Rock 3 premieres Aug. 13 on Disney Channel and will be streaming the next day on Disney+. The film marks a new chapter for the brothers, who have successfully transitioned from teen idols to respected artists, entrepreneurs, and fathers.
The Jonas Brothers' return to Camp Rock is a testament to the enduring power of the franchise and the brothers' commitment to creating meaningful content for their families and fans. As they navigate fatherhood and their careers, they continue to find ways to connect with audiences across generations.
