#TakeALeapofFAITH

According to the Bible in Hebrews 11:1, faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

According to a preacher who nurtured me some years back, it is taking a step without seeing the staircase.

As a hashtag, #TakeALeapofFAITH is a campaign and a promising, exciting journey that I’m inviting others to board for the pioneer voyage set to sail in 2025 and run through 2027. It was wholly inspired by a priest in Man of Steel who Clark went to see.

Here is the background building up to that scene:

An alien baby arrived to earth, humans' planet, in a foreign vessel that landed in the farm of a compassionate couple. The couple took the baby in, knew it was strangely different, and raised it lovingly all the same.

Years later, another alien, who's the General of the planet the baby came from, dramatically shows up to the humans' planet and orders the quick surrender of his citizen who has been living among the humans, looks like them, but is nothing like them.

Planet earth is startled. The alien General and the technological resources at his disposal are clearly way more advanced, frightening and intimidating. The military would rather hunt down and hand in the fellow alien than deal with the potential consequences that he has threatened.

Now a matured Clark Kent, the alien-raised-by-humans faces a dilemma which he then goes to a priest to seek guidance on.

Throughout his upbringing, he was cautioned by his father to keep his identity secret because majority of the human race would react irrationally if anyone found out. Upon meeting the priest, he is aware that whatever he is about to share is a "BHAG". Big and hairy. The priest encourages him to go for it.

He begins by revealing that in front of the priest is the alien whom the military is frantically searching for. An interesting closeup shot of the priest shows a moment of fright - but he maintains perspective.

Clark was certain about the untrustiworthiness of the General, but the dilemma was whether to trust the military (human race) and surrender himself to them.

He had the option to keep hiding and let whatever consequences the General threatened to take effect. Afterall, the damage would've been to humans, not him. And he could easily protect his own loved ones if it came to that.

The priest encouraged him to take a leap of faith.

- which he did, and the inspiration continues.

I happened to re-watch the 2013 movie earlier this month (Aug 2024). I believe it is because of now being in a season of being matured as a missionary, that that particular scene & dialogue moved me and I resonated with it profoundly.

According to a commentary by Grace College & Seminary, the central feature of faith is confidence or trust.

A LEAP of faith would therefore describe a conscious, prayerful, deliberate choice (might even say gamble) to exercise confidence, where there’s been a precedent of no-reason-to-be-confident; to trust, where the precedent is corruption and deception… led by the God-is-able conviction.

And inspiringly true to the point, the priest in Man of Steel went ahead to say …the trust part comes later.

The Grace College & Seminary commentary also gives this Scriptural reference in Romans 4:20: No unbelief made him (Abraham) waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.

Through #TakeALeapofFAITH campaign I am seeking to persuade:

i) potential partners to join in my conviction & believe in my vision, as the vision bearer to whom God has revealed the promise, and the strategies.

The vision entails a 3-year pioneer phase to tackle the impossible.
