The Forked Tongue
“How do you know when someone is lying?” asked Gary Douglas, the creator and founder of Access Consciousness, during a podcast interview that I recall listening to several seasons ago. After a few incorrect guesses, he lightheartedly quipped, “Their mouth is moving.”

TW: this piece contains mention of suicide. --- The year is 2008 and I'm standing in my town's ice skating rink in a Tony Hawk hoodie. I can see my breath floating out in front of me and solemnly toward the ceiling with each new exhale. I'm in the long adjoining room beside the main rink and I'm frozen meekly beside a vending machine equipped with Cup O' Noodles. Veronica is standing across the room from me and she looks as nervous to approach me as I do her.
Ben UlanseyPublished 6 months ago in JournalDo You Remember?
Do you remember the first time you ever picked up a pen and started writing? I do. It is a memory I look back on today with both fondness and dismay. It was a crisp autumn afternoon, much like the one we're experiencing now, the kind of day when the world seemed to be ablaze with the vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold. I was just a child, perhaps eight or nine years old, with a heart full of wonder and a head full of stories waiting to be told.

She knew how to get her point across, and she did it with an expertise that was formidable. It left quite an impression on me.

Emmanuel OmokhoaPublished 6 months ago in JournalApologised for doing wrong in English Literature International GCSE exam.
It's unfortunate that a prestigious private girls' school had such an issue with their English Literature International GCSE exam. Such incidents can cause stress and confusion for students. Offering the wrong book for study can be a serious mistake on the part of the school or the exam board responsible for administering the test.

I'm a novelist and I love getting reviews for my books. I like them because they say things like, 'I loved this book. I read it all night. I couldn't put it down.' Or, 'I don't usually read books like this, but I gave this one a shot and it surprised me over and over. It was a really great read.' Or, my absolute favorite, 'This is the best book I've read on this site.'
