Know Yourself: Why It's So Important in Life Sometimes in life, we run so fast that we forget to stop and ask, “Who am I really?” We try to do many things, follow people, do what others say, but we don’t spend enough time to know ourself. But knowing yourself is one of the most important thing for a happy life. In this article, we will talk in easy words about what is mean by knowing yourself, why it’s important, and how you can start to know yourself better. What Does "Know Yourself" Mean? To know yourself mean to understand what is inside you. It’s not about what job you do or what clothes you wear. It’s about knowing: • What makes you happy or sad •What things you believe in •What is important for you in life •What are your strong sides and weak sides •What you really want, not what others want •How you feel in different times When you know all this, you can make better choice and live more honest life. Why It's So Important To Know Yourself? 1. You Find Real Purpose in Life Many people don’t know what they really want. They just do job or study because others say so. But when you know yourself, you find your real dream. You don’t follow others. You follow your own way. 2. You Make Better Decisions If you know your feelings and your values, then you can make decisions that match you. You will not get confused or listen to wrong people. 3. You Understand Other People Better When you know your own thoughts and feelings, you also start to understand other people better. You talk better, listen better, and you will make strong and true relationships. 4. You Feel More Confident If you know yourself, you feel strong from inside. You don’t need to pretend. They don’t get time to sit quiet and think. They don’t know how: Nobody teach us how to know ourself. So we don’t even try. But the good news is, anyone can start this journey. You don’t need to be special or smart. Just honest. Simple Ways to Know Yourself Better 1. Spend Time Alone Being alone is not bad. Sometimes when you are alone and silent, you start to hear your true thoughts. Sit in your room or go for walk without phone. Just be with yourself. 2. Write Your Feelings in a Notebook Write down what you feel, what you like or hate, what makes you happy, what makes you cry. Writing helps you to see your own heart. Some questions to write: •What do I really want? •What am I scared of? • When was the last time I felt proud? •What makes me angry again and again? 3. Think About Past Look back and think what things you enjoyed most in your life. What were the worst times? What lessons you learn? Your past can tell a lot about who you are. 4. They don’t have to be hard books. Just pick any book that makes you ask questions or gives new ideas. Taking care of your mind is a smart thing, not a selfish one. What Happens When You Start Knowing Yourself? When you take time to understand who you really are, many good things happen: •You stop copying others • You feel more happy in small things •You don’t waste time on wrong people • You trust yourself more • You don’t need to please everybody • You become more calm and clear Slowly, life feels more real, more peaceful.
