Media shapes our mind
The Power of Storytelling: How Media and Advertising Shape Our Identities and Perceptions Storytelling has been a cornerstone of human communication since the dawn of time, with the ability to shape our identities, determine our behaviors, and forge our dreams. However, the stories we are told through various media channels, including books, screens, and advertising, can have a profound impact on how we view the world and perpetuate harmful stereotypes and prejudices. Research has shown that stories repeated in our minds actually interact with our biology, with our brains needing shortcuts to simplify and organize information. This can lead to the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes and prejudices, particularly against marginalized communities. The narrative we tell and are told has the potential to create and continue prejudice beliefs, often dominated by a few storytellers. The British Film Institute found that between 2006 and 2016, only 0.5% of roles credited to actors in the UK were played by black British actors. This lack of representation can lead to self-imposed limitations on what individuals can achieve and allows negative perceptions to go unchallenged. When black people are represented, they are often subject to racialized tropes, traced back to colonialism, historic anti-blackness, and the legacy of slavery. These stereotypes, created by white storytellers, dehumanize and erase the multiplicity of black people's existence. Examples include the "mummy" trope, famously played by Hattie McDaniel in Gone with the Wind, which was removed from HBO Max due to racist depictions. Other stereotypes include the "angry black woman," "stoic," "gangster," and "black best friend." Colorism, a phrase coined by Alice Walker, also plays a significant role in on-screen storytelling, with lighter skin characters often being used to tick the boxes of diversity without critically engaging with anti-black bias. This perpetuates racist perceptions and constructs harmful stereotypes. The average American spends over 11 hours a day consuming media, making it a powerful tool to challenge and change perceptions. However, it is crucial to ask whose voice is telling the story and who it is trying to represent. Storytellers must strive to give the same platform and voice to people to tell their own stories and shape their own identities. Only by doing so can we show endless possibilities of who black people can be and what they can achieve. It is time to challenge harmful stereotypes and prejudices perpetuated by media and advertising and create a more inclusive and representative narrative that reflects the multiplicity of black people's existence. At end this thing should be in mind that media is essential nowadays as well Yes, media has become an integral part of our daily lives and a essential need in today's world. Am I Living? Or Just Passing Time?
"Am I really living, or just going through the motions? Days feel like a blur, each one a repeat of the last. I'm trapped in a cycle of routine, a prisoner of my own making. I want to break free from the shackles of monotony and truly experience life. I yearn to embrace the unknown, to face my fears, and to find hope in the darkness. I crave human connection, to laugh with others, to cry with others, and to love without bounds. Life is a collection of moments, shaped by our choices. It's a mix of emotions, contradictions, and imperfections. To live is to love, to cry, and to rise again. It's finding comfort in the embrace of strangers, seeing magic in the ordinary, and cherishing life's beauty. I realize life is a creation of our choices, a poem of moments, a song of laughter, and a dance of tears. I'm the artist, poet, and musician. I'm the canvas, page, and instrument. I want to truly live, not just exist. I want to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, the touch of a gentle breeze, and the beauty of a sunset. I want to experience life in all its forms, to embrace its ups and downs, and to find meaning in its mysteries. I want to be alive, not just breathing. I want to be a beacon of hope, a shining star, and a ray of sunshine. Life is precious, fleeting, and fragile. It's a gift, a treasure, and a blessing. I want to unwrap it, cherish it, and honor it. I want to live, truly live, not just pass through the days. "In the depths of my soul, a whisper echoes - am I truly alive, or merely a leaf blown by the winds of time? The days unfold like a canvas of memories, each one a brushstroke of joy, sorrow, and longing. I yearn to break free from the shackles of monotony, to embrace the symphony of life in all its beauty and complexity. Like a river flowing to the ocean, I seek to surrender to the currents of existence. To embrace the beauty of the unknown, to dance with the shadows of fear, and to bask in the radiance of hope. I long to be cradled in the warmth of human connection, to taste the sweetness of laughter, and to be nourished by the bread of love. Life is a tapestry of moments, woven from the threads of our choices. It's a kaleidoscope of emotions, a harmony of contradictions, and a masterpiece of imperfections. To live is to love, to weep, and to rise again. It's to find solace in the embrace of strangers, to discover magic in the mundane, and to cherish the beauty of the human experience. In this odyssey of self-discovery, I stumble upon the realization that life is a work of art, crafted by the brushstrokes of our choices. It's a poem of moments, a song of laughter, and a dance of tears. I am the artist, the poet, and the musician. I am the canvas, the page, and the instrument.
