Short Story Fiction and Poetry Writing Contest

Are you looking to gain a larger audience and perhaps earn a few dollars, pounds, euros, francs, yen, rands, riels, rupees, pesos, or shillings? Maybe use it to invest in Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Dogecoin. Or perhaps, gold, silver, rubies, or diamonds. Or better yet, have a nice dinner with someone you care about.

Here is a list of writing contests that are accepting submissions. Each has its own rules and guidelines. You should read them carefully and pay close attention to their submission requirements. We will update this list regularly, so check back often.

Globe Soup: Seven Day Writing Challenge

Deadline: New Challeges announced regularly.

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First Place 500 pounds.

Word Count: 2,000 words.

Topic: They provide a theme and genre at random. You have seven days to write a short story.

Notes: If you register for the contest, you will receive and email with the theme and your genre on the day it starts.

Tales: Something I Can Sink My Teeth Into

Deadline: February 28th, 2022

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First Place $600, second place $300, third place $100.

Word Count: 3,000 words.

Topic: Stories that capture all things you love about vampires.

Notes: What a great theme for the month of February.

Writers of the Future

Deadline: March 31st, 2022 (New contest each quarter)

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: Awared Quarterly, First Place $1000, second place $750, third place $500. The winners of the quartly contest compete for a $5000 annual grand prize.

Word Count: 17,000 words.

Topic: Science fiction or fantasy

Notes: Open only to amateur writers. See offical rules for more details. At 17,000 words this is one of the larger contest.

The Alpine Fellowship Writing Prize 2022

Deadline: April 1st, 2022

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First place 10,000 pounds, second place 3,000 pounds, third place 2,000 pounds.

Word Count: 2,500 words.

Topic: Freedom

Notes: Follow this link to get an indeph explaination of the theme. In collaboration with the Hannah Arendt Center at Bard College.

Robert Louis Stevenson: Fabel Competition

Deadline: April 2nd, 2022

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First place 500 pounds, second place 100 pounds .

Word Count: 350 words.

Topic: A fable in the style of Robert Louis Stevenson.

Notes: Robert Louis Stevenson wrote twenty-two fabes.

Parsec Short Story Contest

Deadline: May 1st, 2022

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First place $200, second place $100, third place $50.

Word Count: 350o words.

Topic: Hearth, Song, and Table.

Notes: Open only to amateur writers. See offical rules for more details.

Fix Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors

Deadline: May 5th, 2022

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First place $3000, second place $2000, third place $1000, fourth through twelfth place $300.

Word Count: 3000 - 5000 words.

Topic: Envision the next 180 years of climate progress.

Notes:

Biopage Storytelling Contest

Deadline: July 31st, 2022

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First Place $300 plus five runner ups win $100.

Word Count: 5,000 characters (about 1000 words).

Topic: Essay on "Remind people the benefits of writing."

Notes:

Doug Weller: Six Word Wonder Contest

Deadline: November 30th, 2022

Entry Fee: $0

Prizes: First Place $100.

Word Count: 6 words.

Topic: Compose up to 6 six word stories, memoirs, poems, or jokes.

Notes: You can enter up to five time.

Some contests are available for a fee. In the future, we will expand this list to include the ones that offer the best value.

There are also subscription models available. We are currently in the process of evaluating them and hope to bring you the ones that offer the greatest value in the near future.

Of course, more writing contests appear on a regular basis. We are hard at work identifying them and will continue to update the list.
