Resilience of the Open Heart
How Vulnerability, Like the Eurozone, Can Withstand External Shocks
The eurozone economy picked up more rapidly than previously estimated in the second quarter, defying expectations despite the jump in energy prices caused by the war between the U.S. and Iran. Driven by exports and consumer spending, this resilience suggests that even under the pressure of geopolitical conflict and blocked supply lines, an economy can adapt, grow, and thrive. For me, this economic surprise mirrors a profound personal truth: I am more resilient than I believed. Despite the "war" of my past, the trauma, the bullying, the abuse, and the "blocked straits" of my own emotional isolation, my heart has continued to expand. It has not collapsed under the weight of guilt or fear. Instead, it has found new sources of energy: truth, connection, and honesty.
The article notes that this resilience will be challenged if the conflict continues to block the Strait of Hormuz. Similarly, my healing will be tested if I allow the "conflict" of my shame to block the flow of my life. If I keep the strait closed, if I refuse to let the light in, the pressure will build. The costs will rise. The sentiment will weigh down. But if I keep the channel open, if I allow myself to be seen, to be known, to be vulnerable I can withstand the shock. I can absorb the impact. I can keep moving forward.
German Bund yields are rising due to expectations of higher interest rates, not because of a lack of confidence in the debt itself. This is a crucial distinction. In my life, my "yields" my anxiety, my vigilance, and my emotional intensity are rising. But they are not rising because I am broken. They are rising because I am adjusting to a new reality. I am pricing in the risk of honesty. I am adjusting to the higher "cost" of living without lies. It is not a sign of failure; it is a sign of adaptation. It is the market of my soul responding to the new data of my truth.
Huw Pill, the Bank of England’s Chief Economist, sees the need for a rate rise to limit the risk of prolonged inflation. I see the need for a "rate rise" in my own standards. I must raise the cost of tolerating dishonesty. I must increase the "interest rate" on my own self-respect. If I keep my standards low, if I allow myself to settle for less than I deserve, the "inflation" of regret will stay above my target for a prolonged period. I must act now to stabilize my internal economy. I must make the hard choices that ensure long-term stability over short-term comfort.
Germany’s Ifo Institute revised up its growth estimates, citing healthy exports and rising public investment. My own "growth estimates" have been revised upward as well. I no longer see myself as a stagnant, damaged good. I see myself as an economy in recovery. My "exports" are my creativity, my empathy, my unique perspective. My "public investment" is the time and energy I am putting into therapy, into family, into self-care. These are not wasted resources. They are the drivers of my future expansion.
European indexes edged higher, with AI-related stocks gaining. Artificial Intelligence is about processing power, about finding patterns in chaos, about creating value from data. My autism gives me this same power. I can see the patterns in human behavior that others miss. I can process the complex data of my emotions with precision. I can create value from the chaos of my past. This is not a deficit; it is my competitive advantage. It is my "AI stock." And it is gaining value every day I choose to use it for good rather than for manipulation.
The war in the Middle East has weighed on market sentiment, but the eurozone has not collapsed. It has adapted. It has found new routes. It has diversified its sources. I am doing the same. I am no longer dependent on the "oil" of external validation. I am generating my own power. I am building my own infrastructure. I am securing my own supply chains of joy and peace.
The Strait of Hormuz may be blocked, but the sea is vast. There are other ways through. There are other ports to visit. There are other markets to explore.
I am not defined by the blockade. I am defined by my ability to navigate around it. And so far, I am navigating well. My economy is growing. My heart is expanding. My spirit is resilient. And that is a forecast I can trust.
