Preparing Your Workplace Post Lockdown

How can we get back to the office in safety?

We are in the midst of a change that will see the way we work in an office environment changed forever. The pace of change that has been brought about by the Covid-19 crisis means that there are new ways of working that have to get used to from here on out. With many workers being furloughed and the vast majority now taking part in the so-called “world’s biggest working from home experiment” for the last few months, we have recently seen some light at the end of the tunnel.

The last few weeks have seen some restrictions easing over the UK as both the Westminster government and devolved governments begin to make the move back to normality. While it is unlikely that there will be a complete return to normality, we might see our offices in use again in the near future. With this in mind, here are some steps to help you prepare your workplace for post lock down.

Less People in the Office

One of the biggest challenges that businesses will have to overcome in this easing of restrictions is getting people into the workplace safely. There have been a lot of guidelines about social distancing and the importance of keeping 2 meters apart from people that aren’t in your household at all times. In an office environment this is likely to be difficult, especially if the full capacity of the company is in at the one time.

This issue has been investigated in a number of different ways, and one solution that has been repeatedly pushed is rotating the workforce in the office at the one time. If the business has the capacity to allow everyone to work from home, this can continue while smaller numbers come into the office on certain days. Any shared workspaces will need to deep cleaned every day to reduce the risk of infection.

Further Adoption of Technology

Working from home has allowed us to trail video conferencing and online work spaces en masse. It has been effective so far in letting many different businesses continue operating without a huge interruption to their workload continuity. Even after things begin to return to normal, we can expect to see business travel reduce dramatically, as we have found that many meetings can just as easily be done remotely as they can be in person.

You can prepare for this change by making sure that your office is equipped with the best technology for video calls and interacting with both your colleagues and clients remotely. There is plenty available in the market place to help you get set up and ready for this change that we are going to see in the way we manage relationships in the business world.

A New Standard of Hygiene

The biggest change that we have all been having to get used to over the course of the initial lockdown is the new high standard of hygiene we need to keep in all communal spaces. This will be the same of offices as things begin to return to normal. We need to make sure we are properly equipped with the tools that will help us keep ourselves and our colleagues safe.

We have been learning to adjust to this new standard over the course of the crisis, and the news seems to imply that the habits we have learned will never really go away forever. As long as we in possession with the safety equipment we need to run an office safely, we can try to regain some sense of normality as we overcome this crisis.
