NO ONE KNOWS
He sang what I felt
☹
Although I don’t play a music instrument, I love music, especially the songs I grew up listening to on the radio. Wow! What memories! While many oldies’ stations play the more popular tunes, there is a short list of those that, on occasion, will play the ones that didn’t quite make the top ten.
One such song is “No One Know” sung by Dion and the Belmonts. It only reached number 19, but at the same time, I still get misty when I hear it. As I said, memories.
I wanted to put these thoughts on paper but hearing this song again only today, I hesitated. Now, I’m not really sure if I want to delve into that topic. Is it really worth digging up the past? That part of my life that had occurred more than fifty years ago? That episode of my life that didn’t just break my heart, it shattered it?
Closing my laptop, I called my friend. “Hey, Girl. I’m making a supermarket run. Do you need anything or would you like to take a ride?”
Foxy’s company was exactly what I needed to break the doldrums in which I allowed myself to fall.
As the cashier totaled my groceries, Foxy laughed. “Hey, this is a record! Your bill is under a hundred!”
Next, we stopped at the drug store where I picked up the prescriptions that were ready along with the gauze and bandages I needed. My husband is on blood thinners, and the slightest bump tears his skin and, well, I go through Band-Aids and gauze almost as fast as a small village emergency clinic. (As of this writing, he has two very large band aids on each shin.)
When I opened my laptop and word program, this story sat first and foremost, just waiting for me to finish it.
The question still nags. Do I ignore what’s in my heart, the story that I’ve locked away for so long? Or do I find that damn key, open that box and let the flood pour out?
Before I began typing, my phone rang. Just because my brain is a bit muddled doesn’t mean the world stops.
My friend Dave had his scheduled back surgery this morning. His wife said he’s doing very well and should be released from the hospital, hopefully my Monday.
Kay, across the street was another call. “Hey, did you see that strange but new tan car in my driveway? My husband bought it for me four our anniversary.”
My granddaughter, Steph’s fiancé called to thank me for the birthday gift I sent to him and my grandson’s girlfriend, Jax called to thank me for hers.
I have read and reread these pages a few times already and know in my heart that I’m procrastinating. Sometimes procrastination helps clear my head and offers me a solution to my brain fog.
If, and so far, that’s a very big IF, if I do decide to write about that chapter of my life, I’m not quite sure what I’d say or how to say it. Something to definitely think about.
For now, my phone rang and it’s another spam call.
Sitting here makes me want to go and grab my heating pad – the large one I bought that covers my back.
Yeah, you guess it – procrastinating again.
Since I have put off writing my song-story for so long, I sincerely doubt it will ever get written but hey, there are more chapters in my life that might. Only, who in heaven’s name would want to read about the life of one insignificant person? The only things I have ever done that are my greatest accomplishments are my children. They have grown up to be wonderful young man, husbands, and fathers. If pride is a sin, then, I’m super guilty because I am super proud of my sons.
Yeah, another distraction, here.
Hmm, did I ever tell you about the time my sons, both teenagers by that time, had a party? They planned on using the basement. Yes, THAT basement. Guess that is another story to be told at another time.
Not too long ago, an old friend called. We were in school together. She was visiting her brother a few towns from where I live. We reconnected and she confided in me: “I don’t know if you’re aware, but your brother was the first boy I ever kissed.” Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather.
Still procrastinating.
Guess I finally made up my mind. “No One Knows” will stay buried in the depths of my mind and heart for at least another few months. For now, I’ll put on some music that has a fast beat. My feet can then rhythmically twitch under my desk while more memories spill out of my brain into my fingers and eventually pound out words from my keyboard.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed this bit of nonsense. For me, it was, at least for now, better than spilling out my thoughts about “No One Knows.”
At least the royalties Dion received from that tearjerker song made him smile.
