Mir Abrar Hossain and the Decisions Behind the Dashboard

Decisions Behind the Dashboard

By GulshanPublished 28 days ago • 3 min read
The California business analyst connects operational reporting with the requirements and testing that help make business systems useful.

Sales can rise while labor and food costs take a larger share of revenue. A dashboard showing growth may therefore leave a manager with an incomplete picture of performance. Decisions about staffing or inventory depend on understanding how those figures fit together.

Mir Abrar Hossain has worked with these questions across assignments in business reporting, financial risk, and systems analysis. Based in Riverside, California, he is now a senior business analyst at Khan IT Consultancy LLC in Los Angeles. His work follows a business need from the initial conversation through reporting and user acceptance testing (UAT), when business users assess whether a system meets their requirements.

Starting with the Business Question

Hossain joined Khan IT in February 2026. He leads stakeholder interviews, translates business needs into requirements documents and user stories, and defines the key performance indicators (KPIs) used in dashboards. He also coordinates testing and maintains links between requirements and project deliverables.

A request to track performance leaves much to settle. A team needs to agree on what a measure represents, which records belong in the calculation, and how the result will be used. Those choices shape the report long before anyone selects a chart. Hossain's responsibilities place him in the discussions where such details become instructions that a technical team can act on.

According to his employer, SQL, Python, Power BI, and user acceptance testing are part of his daily work. The software supports different stages of analysis, from querying and preparing data to presenting it in reports. The requirements define what those reports need to accomplish; testing helps establish whether they do.

Following the Numbers into Operations

The operating decisions behind a report were central to Hossain's assignment at Friendly Franchises Corporation in La Palma, California. From September 2025 through January 2026, he analyzed sales, labor, and food-cost data, built KPI dashboards, and investigated anomalies. Demand forecasting supported recommendations for staffing and inventory planning.

Each measure offered a different view of the business. Sales indicated activity, while labor and food costs helped explain the resources used to support it. Examining them together provided a basis for identifying performance gaps and considering changes to operating plans.

Forecasting extended that analysis into upcoming decisions. Historical demand could inform staffing and inventory recommendations, while unusual values in the records required investigation before they could be interpreted as changes in the business. Hossain's work covered both the preparation of reports and the analysis behind the recommendations.

Putting Requirements to the Test

Earlier in 2025, Hossain worked at Taskimpetus Inc in New Orleans, gathering requirements across business functions and analyzing data with SQL, Excel, and Tableau. His responsibilities included leadership reporting and the preparation of user stories and acceptance criteria, which describe the conditions a solution must meet.

He also developed UAT test cases, validated results, and documented issues. That work connected the original request with a specific check: what was expected, what occurred, and where the two differed. Recording the difference gives business users and technical teams a shared basis for investigating a problem.

His 2024 assignment at Transfotech Global Corp in Los Angeles involved related work at an earlier stage of delivery. He assisted with requirements analysis and functional specifications, performed SQL-based data validation, and tracked requirements and project updates in Jira. Across the two roles, his duties extended from describing expected system behavior to examining whether the output matched it.

A Background in Finance and Risk

Before these U.S. assignments, Hossain worked as a risk and business analyst at The Corporate Consultancy in Bangladesh from June 2020 through November 2022. He examined financial and operational data, built Excel dashboards to track performance and risk exposure, and communicated findings to stakeholders. He also supported risk assessments, regulatory compliance activities, and process improvements.

His education spans the same fields. He holds a BBA in Finance from Port City International University in Bangladesh and completed an MBA in Business Analytics at International American University in Los Angeles in January 2025. He earned the Project Management Professional credential from the Project Management Institute in February 2025.

At Khan IT, Hossain now works across requirements, dashboards, and acceptance testing within a single role. The common concern is whether the information delivered to business users addresses the need they described. When a manager uses a report to plan staffing or investigate a cost increase, the definitions and checks behind it help determine how much confidence to place in the numbers.
