Life After Failures:

How to Bounce Back and Find the Strength to Move Forward

By Vira SvirhunPublished 2 years ago 4 min read

I’ve written about the strength I almost lost entirely. Inside, there was just a tiny spark of hope that in the States, I’d finally find my way, that success was waiting for me there. But deep down, I wondered: ‘Did I even have the energy for that? What if I ended up disappointed again, just like before?’

We’ve all been there. We’ve all hit rock bottom at some point, only to rise again, stronger. You, yes, you, have been there too.

Every time that moment would come, I’d start feeling sick. My body was begging for peace, but at the same time, I couldn’t be alone. People are all so alike, so caught up in pretending everything’s okay. Stop. What do you want?

Do you need to cry? Then cry! Put on that sad song, let it all out, and don’t hold back.

Do you want to be alone? Turn off your phone! Don’t look at your screen, don’t check messages, don’t answer calls. Tell everyone you need a few days/weeks to yourself. Watch TV, listen to podcasts, binge movies or stand-up specials, whatever helps. Read a book, nap, walk around the city, get lost, and find your way back to something you forgot you needed.

Do you need a break? Then book that trip! Go with a friend, go solo, or join a group. Visit a new city, a new country. Meet people you’ll never see again, but who will stay in your memories forever.

Do anything during this time, everything is possible. The universe is literally at your feet! If you’re alone, start journaling. Write whatever’s on your mind, like you’re chatting with your best friend (or even yourself). Be real. Be honest. With yourself and for yourself.

It’s not that hard to figure out where you’re stuck. You just need to clear the noise, or maybe find peace in it. That’s what I did. I found myself in the middle of a crowd. It was there I felt truly free, but at the same time, alone with my thoughts in a crowd. You say ‘Impossible’. I say: ‘Everything is possible, we’re all so different’.

Remember that place where it clicked? That moment when you realized everything? Keep coming back to it. Recreate that feeling whenever you can. In a few days, maybe weeks, you’ll finally see where things went wrong, where you didn’t try hard enough, where you didn’t push hard enough. Maybe it wasn’t something you really needed after all. But if it’s something you do want, then you owe it to yourself to try again. Because otherwise, you’ll never know where you could’ve gone if you’d achieved what you truly desired.

Now, imagine for a second that you’ve finally achieved what you’ve been working toward. How do you feel? Does it warm your heart? Yes? THEN WHY THE HELL AREN’T YOU GETTING UP AND GOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN?!

I just don’t get it. Some people are perfectly fine with not chasing their dreams. They’ll talk about living in Miami but do nothing about it. I’ve seen it so often, and it frustrates the hell out of me. They’ll stay stuck in their dreams forever. But you don’t want that, right?

If you know that this is not you, then do everything I’ve mentioned. Get clear on what you really want, and take actual steps toward it. Break those steps into small, easy pieces, like you’re chopping up dill. Build a clear picture in your head of what needs to happen next.

Sometimes, the universe gives us challenges to make us stronger. They come in threes. The first is a warm-up, nothing too crazy. But that second one? Oh, you won’t be able to avoid it. You’ll have to choose yourself. You’ll have to choose your goal! And let me remind you, don’t forget what you’ve decided. Face that test with pride and confidence. By the third time, it’ll become a habit. You’ll choose what’s needed by instinct because you’ve grown used to it.

You’ll get through this. You’ll rise again, like a phoenix. I know you, you’ve been there before. My dear, we’ve both been at rock bottom so many times, but we’ve risen so beautifully. This time, your wings will shine as the color of the year, and they will carry you exactly where you need to go.

You want this. So take the time you need to recharge, to find your peace, then rise up with new strength. Let go of what holds you back…Breathe in deeply… and with every exhale, feel the scent of success in the air — it’s waiting for you.

I don’t have much more to say. I know the people who needed to hear this message will hear it. And most importantly, I know this because the one who was so desperately searching for inner strength, even though they had already broken down their goals, was me. I am breakable too, but I know how to get my power back, that’s why I’m here. I’m on level 6 of 13 toward achieving them, and I know there will be failures and setbacks at every stage. You’ll get tired. You’ll feel like giving up. But you can’t. Because deep down, you know exactly how you want to feel when you finally achieve it, and that’s what’s going to keep you moving forward.

We’ve all remembered that feeling from the start — the warm, sweet scent of success. Victory. Can you smell it again?

We’re all on this journey. And if you truly want it, you’ll get there. And I know you want it, too.
