Jenny Mollen is sharing an update on how she's doing after her split from Jason Biggs. The 47-year-old actress posted a video of herself frolicking through a backyard set to Metric's 2008 song "Help I'm Alive" on Instagram on Thursday, July 23. In the video, she wears a long floral dress and sunglasses, appearing carefree as she moves through the outdoor space.

"So we are clear, I am massively depressed," Mollen wrote in the caption. "This is just what surviving looks like."

The caption appeared to allude to her recent separation from Biggs, to whom she was married for 18 years. A representative for the couple confirmed to PEOPLE in May that Biggs, 48, and Mollen had separated, though they remained on "great terms" and were focused on co-parenting their two sons, Lazlo, 8, and Sid, 12.

A Reflective Essay and Italy Plans

In the weeks following the separation, Mollen opened up about how she is finding healing in a candid personal essay on Substack titled "Don't Tell Me What It Is." After reflecting on her complicated relationship with ambition, she alluded to the split when discussing her plans to travel to Italy.

"I leave for Italy on Wednesday, which sounds soooo Eat, Pray, Love considering the current state of my life," she wrote, referring to Elizabeth Gilbert's hit 2006 memoir chronicling a reflective trip around the world, including Italy.

"But I'm not going to find myself or sleep with some beautiful Italian stranger; I already have two half-Italians at home," Mollen quipped, referencing her two sons. "I'm actually just going because a friend invited me to her birthday party. It also happens to be my birthday as well."

A Surreal Experience

On June 23, during an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Mollen called the split "surreal."

"It's surreal, yeah, I feel like it's really bizarre," she said in a clip from the episode that PEOPLE revealed exclusively. "People will be like, 'How does it feel?' And I'm like, 'I don't know, the same?' We live in two different places, but we're still tethered. We have kids."

She added that they still talk often regarding their two children, making it "not a normal breakup" as they co-parent together.

A United Front for Co-Parenting

A source close to the pair told PEOPLE at the time that Mollen and Biggs "are doing great" and spent Biggs' 48th birthday together just before news of the split went public. "They are very much connected," the source said of Biggs and Mollen's future as co-parents. "I have no doubt that they will remain on excellent terms."

The couple's commitment to maintaining a positive co-parenting relationship has been evident throughout the process. Both have prioritized their children's well-being, ensuring that the transition is as smooth as possible for Lazlo and Sid.

A Creative Outlet for Healing

Mollen, who is also an author and writer, has used her Substack platform as a creative outlet to process the emotional complexities of her separation. Her willingness to share her vulnerability with her readers has resonated with many who have gone through similar experiences.

Her recent Instagram post, with its honest caption about depression and survival, continues that theme of raw authenticity. It serves as a reminder that healing is not always linear, and that even moments of apparent joy can coexist with profound sadness.

Looking Ahead

As Mollen continues to navigate this new chapter in her life, she appears to be leaning on her support network, her creative pursuits, and her children for strength. Her upcoming trip to Italy, which she framed as a birthday celebration with a friend rather than a soul-searching journey, suggests a grounded approach to healing, one focused on friendship, family, and the simple act of moving forward.

Jenny Mollen's candid reflections on her split from Jason Biggs offer a glimpse into the complexities of ending a long-term marriage while maintaining a united front for the sake of children. Her willingness to share both the struggles and the moments of resilience has struck a chord with fans and followers.

As she continues to heal and co-parent with Biggs, Mollen's message is clear: survival doesn't always look like triumph. Sometimes, it looks like running through a field in a floral dress while feeling "massively depressed"and that's okay. It's simply what surviving looks like.
