Jenelle Evans Opens Up About Homeschooling Her Kids After Son Faces Repeated Bullying

The former Teen Mom 2 star says chronic pain from a recent diagnosis made daily school drop-offs and pickups difficult, and she's taking control of her children's education.

Jenelle Evans is sharing a parenting update on two of her kids, Kaiser, 12, and Ensley, 9. The former Teen Mom 2 star, 34, took to Instagram on Wednesday, August 26, updating her fans in a video and sharing that she's decided to homeschool her youngest.

"I know some of you are thinking, 'She's too dumb to homeschool her kids. She doesn't know what she's doing,'" the MTV alum mused. "Listen, I'm not the teacher in this. I just put them on the computer." Evans said she is going the homeschooling route for "many different reasons," the main one being that Kaiser is "having a really hard time being bullied in school."

The Bullying

After dealing with the bullying, which she said was "mainly having to do with his weight," in two different cities, Evans said she was disheartened to see him facing bullying yet again in a new school. The emotional toll of watching her child struggle with the cruelty of peers was a significant factor in her decision to remove him from the traditional school environment.

Bullying is a widespread issue that affects millions of children each year, and Evans's experience highlights the difficulty parents face when trying to protect their children from harm. By choosing to homeschool, she is taking a proactive step to shield Kaiser from further distress.

The Health Factor

Another factor in her homeschooling decision has been Evans's recent complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) diagnosis. CRPS is a form of chronic pain that usually affects an arm or a leg, according to the Mayo Clinic. In a past video, Evans documented her struggles with CRPS, which she said came from an injury back in April. She shared, "Normal, everyday tasks have literally become impossible," adding, "I'm crying in pain on and off throughout the whole day."

In her homeschooling video, Evans explained that the diagnosis and her chronic pain have hindered her ability to drive her kids to and from school each day. "I literally was taking two hours, three hours out of my day in the morning and afternoon just to do drop-offs and pickups," she said.

Taking Control

The reality star also likes having control over what her kids are learning, saying, "Also, I feel like I know what they're being taught as a parent, and I don't have to worry about any craziness being instilled inside their heads. Not to mention, if I do have to do any traveling, they can go with me."

So far, she's a fan of this process, saying after the first week that it's been "going great" and that her kids have "been getting their schoolwork done literally in two hours." She shared that her kids are enrolled in the Acellus Academy, an online homeschooling program, noting, "So far, no complaints."

Family Dynamics

Evans shares Kaiser with her ex, Nathan Griffith, and Ensley with her ex, David Eason. She is also the mom of Jace, 17, who is currently residing in a mental health facility after he allegedly pulled a gun on his grandmother earlier this year. On August 2, Evans celebrated Jace's 17th birthday on Instagram, writing, "I HAVE A 17-YEAR-OLD! 😭 Being a teenager can be hard, but you seem to handle it well. You're so smart, curious about life, and handsome. Hope today is everything you've wanted and more! I love you @jace_vahn ♥️."

The challenges Evans has faced as a mother are significant, from managing her own health issues to navigating the complexities of her children's needs. Her decision to homeschool Kaiser and Ensley reflects her commitment to their well-being, even in the face of criticism.

Evans has long been the subject of public scrutiny, and her parenting choices are often met with skepticism. Her candid acknowledgment of the criticism in her video "I know some of you are thinking, 'She's too dumb to homeschool her kids'" demonstrates her awareness of the judgment she faces. However, she remains focused on what she believes is best for her family.

Homeschooling represents a new chapter for Evans and her children. By taking control of their education, she is creating an environment where they can learn without the fear of bullying and where she can manage her health more effectively. While the path may not be without its challenges, Evans appears committed to making it work.

Her openness about her struggles and her willingness to adapt her parenting approach serve as a reminder that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to raising children. For Evans, homeschooling is the right choice for her family at this moment, and she is determined to make the most of it.
