“Who did you look up to as a child?” (The female version)

It’s gonna sound funny, but I was looking up to Ariel the little mermaid a lot. That’s because she is so lighthearte, passionate and naïve. Plus, she sings, and singing is a main hobby of mine. Also, I loved her red hair and how she looks.

Disney in general became something off, their streaming service for example is filled to the brim with harsh, violent content. And there’s always new content - whether it’s on Disney+, Netflix or whatever.

It’s always the demand for more, like we’re supposed to devour and devour every piece of content we can soak in, be dull in our minds and hearts, empty, void, devoid of feelings - TV zombies who can’t think for themselves.

In real life, I admired and was amazed by my cousin, that drew really well and was extremely kind to us as kids (she’s still very kind). One time, my brother broke his leg, and she drew the character of Simba on his cast. It was cool. He really liked it.

Cousins and extended family is a topic I don’t think is talked about that much honestly. But my memories were carved and sculpted by those meetings, with my cousins, my uncles, my aunt (I only have one).

I think I’m not the only one at that experience, that more have experienced the warmth of belonging to a family, to a net of people that stretches upon years and years back, that goes wide and diversified as each family member is so different than the other, yet something common unifies the whole group.

And I really liked Luna from Consentidos (“spoiled ones“ in free translation, it was an Argentinian telenovela for kids from the year 2010 I reckon). Luna was a beautifully warm character.

Always smiling, helping out, and being such a mother figure for the kids, who were in boarding school to be re-educated from being spoiled to being transformed into a different version of themselves, a more mature, responsible and independent one.

Luna was there to find her sister, Miranda, which is the principle’s adopted daughter and who she herself lived extravagantly along with her adopting mother. It was a hypocracy on her mom’s (and Miranda, thogh she is not the school’s principle or employe) to live so luxuriously and deprive that from the children.

Though they tried to take, even if subconsciously, something more important than that: those children‘s childhood. Though not succeeding at that, really. Also, the soundtrack is really good. Addictive, you could say. At least to a 11 year old girl such as myself at that time. 😅

So yeah, Ariel, my cousin and Luna, although I steered out of the prompts subject to somewhere else entirely. Who did you look up to? Who were the women/ females (since Ariel is a teen, and you might’ve looked up to other girls your age/ slightly older) you admired growing up? You can take this to any direction you want to, answer in tour own unique way, and go with that challenge for as many days as you’d like, even one day would be an achievement. I’m going with 7 days.

By the way, I wrote this at first in a Spirited Away notebook my sister got me from Italy (and extended it), and you can write this firstly or directly in a your favorite notebook/ journal if you’d like, because feeling the words by writing with a pen or a pencil is a feeling like no other. But do whatever you’d like. ❤️
