If your Could Meet Anyone Throughout History Who Would You Choose?

My Top 3 and Why

Several years ago I saw a movie about a teen roller-blade phenom. It wasn't a particularly great movie. It likely didn't make big money at the box office and certainly didn't come away with any major awards. But there was one thing that stuck with me. The lead character mentioned something about being able to pick three people in all of history that you'd want to meet.

On occasion, I thought about this on a deep philosophical level and figured I would finally share me "Big 3" list. I can't recall whether or not the movie said something about having a meal throughout the day with each one of them but I am going to approach it that way.

Breakfast with Gandhi

While it may be strange talking about having a meal with a man who was very frail in stature and was known for fasting and not eating much in general, I'm going to do it anyway. Perhaps he could simply order a single slice of toast.

I think Gandhi would be a fascinating man. To get the chance to hear directly from a person who was both deeply religious and a true peaceful warrior for his people in their struggle for his country's Independence would be truly enlightening.

My original choice for this position was Martin Luther King Jr. but the more I learned about Gandhi, the more I felt that he needed to be bumped up to this position.

Lunch with William Shakespeare

As a writer and particularly one who loves to write poetry, I would really enjoy the opportunity to pick the brain of the master of literature himself. I'd be thrilled to engage in discussion about his creative process and what inspired him.

It was a Shakespeare poem (Sonnet 18) that first instilled my love of poetry in my late teens. Beforehand, I thought it was an art form for wussies. And, in large part because of this man, I have followed my own creative writing pursuits and even delved into the other arts.

There is some controversy over whether or not he had the skill to write his works due to lack of education. Some suggest another person was the actual author of his work. I choose to believe that he was an unlikely success story that overcame the odds. As such he is an inspiration and that would be all the more reason to chat with the guy.

Dinner with Jesus Christ

As a Catholic Christian and just a person who can admire some who changed the world so immensely with a message of peace and love, I think it would be incredible to meet this man.

Not only was Jesus a figure who inspired hope and justice, he was clearly a very intelligent person. He spoke with eloquence and brought a message that would spread across races, genders, ages and the globe as a whole.

I would love to hear more about the human side of this individual who my faith teaches me was both man and divine and clear up some issues that different sects of Christianity debate about.

Summing It Up

One thing you'll notice about this list is that these three people come from very different backgrounds, faith structures and cultures. Perhaps that's part of the reason I am fascinated by all of them. If we were all the same, it would be pretty boring.

With a combination of intellect, creativity and the desire to make the world a better place, how could you not find them to be amazing people?

Perhaps this will inspire you to think about your own "Big 3" and the questions you'd ask.
