IEC Reminds Political Parties and Candidates of Friday Deadline for Local Government Election Nominations

The Electoral Commission (IEC) has reminded political parties and independent candidates intending to contest the 2026 Local Government Elections that the deadline for the submission and completion of candidate nominations is Friday, 28 August. The Commission urges all parties and candidates who intend to participate in the elections to ensure that their candidate nomination details and all required information are completed and submitted well ahead of the deadline.

"Political parties and candidates must take this deadline seriously," the Commission said in a statement. "The submission process is not something that can be rushed at the last minute. We strongly advise all participants to complete their nominations as early as possible to avoid technical difficulties or administrative errors that could disqualify their candidates."

The Local Government Elections are scheduled to be held on 4 November 2026, and the nomination process is the first critical step in what will be a comprehensive electoral cycle.
