"I Trusted Him... And God saved Me"

A love story, a betrayal, and a truth that changed me

By Fazalullah Published 5 months ago 3 min read

I never thought I would tell this story one day. Because at one time, it felt too painful to even remember. But now I know… some stories are not just meant to hurt us. They are meant to wake us up. My name is Ayesha. And this is what happened when I trusted someone too much. I met him when I was in college. He was calm, soft spoken, and always polite. Not like the other boys. He didn’t talk too much. But when he did, it felt like he really understood me. His name was Daniel. At first, we were just friends. We studied together. We talked about dreams, life, and future plans. He made me feel safe. Like I could trust him with anything. Slowly, I started believing he was different. Better than others. I started waiting for his messages. And smiling when my phone rang. I didn’t realize when friendship turned into something deeper. One day, he told me he loved me. I didn’t even hesitate. I said I loved him too. It felt like a dream. We started talking every day. Sometimes for hours at night. He told me I was the only one who understood him. And I believed him. I ignored small things. Small warnings. Small doubts in my heart. Because love makes you blind. He said he had problems in his family. He said he needed time before making anything official. I understood. Or at least I thought I did. Months passed like this. I started changing my life for him. I stopped talking to some friends. I avoided people who questioned him. I trusted him completely. Then one day, everything started changing. He became distant. His replies got shorter. His calls reduced. When I asked him, he always had excuses. “I am busy.” “I am stressed.” “Please understand me.” But something didn’t feel right anymore. One evening, I saw something that broke me. I saw him with another girl. Holding her hand. Laughing like nothing had ever happened between us. My world stopped in that moment. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I went home and cried all night. I kept asking myself the same question. “How could he?” I called him again and again. He didn’t answer. Finally, he replied with a message. “I think we should end this. I never promised forever.” That line destroyed me. Never promised forever. But what about all those nights? All those words? All those promises? Was it all nothing? I felt used. I felt broken. I felt stupid for trusting him so deeply. For days, I stopped eating properly. I stopped talking to people. I felt like my life had ended. One night, my mother sat beside me. She didn’t ask many questions. She just held my hand. And she said something I will never forget. “Sometimes God removes people you love… because they were never meant to stay.” I didn’t understand it at that time. But I started praying. Not because I was strong. But because I was completely broken. I had nothing else left. Slowly, days passed. Then weeks. The pain didn’t disappear. But it became lighter. I started focusing on myself again. I went back to studies. I started meeting old friends again. And one day, I realized something. I was smiling again. Not because everything was perfect. But because I survived something I thought would destroy me. Months later, I heard about him again. The same girl he left me for… left him too. He was doing the same thing with others. Same lies. Same stories. And suddenly, I felt nothing. No anger. No sadness. Just peace. Because I understood the truth. It was never love. It was illusion. And God saved me from something I couldn’t see at that time. Today, when I look back, I don’t cry anymore. I don’t hate him anymore either. I just feel thankful. Thankful that it ended. Thankful that I was protected. Thankful that I didn’t stay longer in something that was breaking me slowly. Sometimes we think losing someone is the worst thing. But sometimes, losing them is actually saving ourselves. Now I know… Not everyone who comes into your life is meant to stay. Some are only meant to teach you. And some are meant to show you how strong you can become after breaking. “I Trusted Him… And God Saved Me.” Now I finally understand what that really means.
