How to Think and Grow Rich to Start a Successful Business

If you’re reading this, you probably have dreams that are all-consuming and take up the majority of your waking moments. You have the drive to go after them, but you don’t know where to start or what you should do first in order to make it happen. You don’t know how to think and grow rich, because you don’t have the skill set to take action. The problem isn’t that you can’t start a successful business, but that you haven’t learned how to think and grow rich first.

Introduction

Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich book is one of my favorite books. In fact, I own 2 copies of it: 1 in my library at home, and 1 copy in a drawer at work (I read it 3-5 times per year). For those who are interested in understanding how to think like rich people, or interested in becoming millionaires themselves, I highly recommend you read it. Here are some key takeaways from the book that I think can be applied to starting your first business.

Audible Audiobook

Chapter 1: Desire – The Starting Point of All Achievement

The first principle of achievement is defined in Napoleon Hill’s famous book, Think and Grow Rich, as Desire. It is ‘the starting point of all achievement.’ The first essential for success is DESIRE – a deep, driving desire to win, to succeed... back of every winner there was desire.

Faith – The Foundation of All Achievement

To succeed in business, you need more than just smarts; you need ambition. But so often we find ourselves frozen by fear of failure, paralyzed into inaction by our fear that we’re not enough. The only way to push past these fears is with faith—in yourself and in your ability to achieve success through hard work. The road may be long, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be worth it! Faith will be the first step on your path toward achievement!

Auto Suggestion – The Medium for Influencing the Subconscious Mind

In his book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill explains that our brain has two halves: one conscious, which he calls left brain, and another unconscious, which is referred to as right brain. The left side of our brain processes information rationally through logical thought. The right side uses images from our past experiences in order to understand how situations work.

Specialized Knowledge – The Shortcut to Riches

The key is identifying the specialized knowledge that you can market. Look at areas where you have a talent or skill and see how others may need what you have to offer. For example, if you are skilled at editing audio, many businesses will pay handsomely for someone who is able to clean up audio tracks for their marketing videos or other media projects. If you love animals, look into starting a dog-walking business where your prices can vary based on how long walks are needed (more challenging neighborhoods may pay higher rates).

Imagination – The Workshop of all Achievement

In his book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill devoted an entire chapter on Imagination. According to him, imagination is one of our greatest assets as well as our deadliest enemy. It allows us to plan for success but it also lets us drift off into uncertainty and fear. How can we master it?

Organized Planning – The Process of Planning What To Do, and How To Do It.

The foundation of all successful businesses is planning. Establishing how you will approach your business – including how it will handle finances, human resources, inventory, operations management, growth plans, marketing efforts, etc. – is crucial to its success. And as noted above, one of your most valuable tools in planning is a comprehensive business plan.

Decision – The Mastery of Procrastination

You’re procrastinating on starting your business, but you know deep down it’s what you should be doing. The simplest answer is that you don’t feel ready. You haven’t developed all of your skills or learned all of the ins and outs of running your own company—but what if it wasn’t about being ready? What if it was more about having an iron will and knowing how to make decisions even when they are hard?

Persistence -The Sustained Effort Necessary To Induce Faith

One of Napoleon Hill’s main ideas is that persistence is key. In his book, he said that whatever may be your aim, or however trivial it may seem to you, no matter how hard it may appear at first – if you have faith in yourself, keep plugging away, make a plan for your campaign, obtain adequate knowledge of the conditions surrounding your work – you will win. That victory is inevitable.

Power of the Master Mind – The Driving Force (Master Mind Group)

One of the most important decisions that we can make is how and with whom we spend our time. In my opinion, investing in quality relationships is more important than anything else you can do for your business. If you want to really drive your business forward, then surround yourself with people who are better than you are at what they do. They’ll pull you up and bring out your best self!

Facing Adversity, Temptation & Disaster -How To Seize Opportunity From Defeat

No one wants to fail. Whether in your personal or professional life, failing at something is an unnerving experience. However, failure can also be viewed as an opportunity for growth and success, if you know how to seize opportunity from defeat. Here are three ways you can accomplish it.
