For someone starting as a freelance writer, it can get a little intimidated as to where to start. There are all kinds of sites out the to find freelance writing jobs and different ways of getting jobs such as cold emailing or signing up for a service/website where job requests are posted.

All sites will have their pros and cons. It is well worth the time to do a little research on each site before deciding what site or sites you want to use to begin your freelancing career.

Some Of The Top Sites For Freelance Writing Jobs

Upwork

While you will find a lot of low-paying jobs, you will find job postings that do offer decent pay. As someone new to freelance writing, this may be a good place to start but as you improve your skills and profile you may find that you move on to other sites.

One of the nice aspects of Upwork is that you will know exactly what you will be earning before you even read the full description of the job post.

ProBlogger Job Board

ProBlogger is an authority site in the blogging community. They offer part-time and full-time opportunities as well as contract jobs. Due to ProBloggers web authority, you are likely to find jobs that have been posted by large, well-established blogs.

Who Pays Writers?

This little gem is a crowd-sourced list of publications for freelance writers to find jobs. There are literally hundreds of different publications to explore. Not only do they show which publications are looking for submissions, but you'll also be able to see how much the publications are paying on a per word basis.

With those sites in mind, there are other ways you can make money as a freelance writer without going to sites where you will find all kinds of job postings.

Other Ways To Earn As A Freelance Writer

Become a guest poster. In general, you can earn anywhere from $25 to $125 per post.

Finding popular blogs and writing a post as a guest poster is probably one of the easiest ways for a freelance writer to get started and start making some extra cash.

It will take some time to find the blogs in a niche that will match your writing and knowledge skills. This is a great way to get started, make some connections, and have a portfolio of works you've done started.

Ghostwriting is another avenue you can pursue to earn some extra cash. There are many sites and people out there who want some posts created or even ebooks but don't have the writing skills.

This is where you come in. Offering your skills as a writer to create their content and then allow them to pass it off as their own work.

Creating ebooks on a topic you are knowledgeable. Instead of coming up with different blog posts to write for yourself or others, you can create an ebook on a topic of interest that you have experience with.

The nice thing about creating your own ebooks is that you set the cost for purchase and it can become a passive income. Once you've written your ebook and published it to the platforms of your choice, you can continue to earn early as the years go by if people are buying it.

Create products on increasing writing productivity. As a writer, you may have templates that you use, or certain methods you use, that save you time and make it easier and faster for you to create your content.

You can compile these methods into templates and sell them as digital products. Again this becomes a passive income because once you've created it and uploaded it on platforms to sell it you will earn money for every purchase.

These are just a few of the sites and the different methods for making money as a new freelancer. With a little research you can find other sites and other methods. The key is finding the options that suite you the best and that you feel the most comfortable doing.

Remember that persistance and not giving up if you get declined on your frst few job submissions or guest posting offers.

You will find many people who say yes and no to creating a portfolio page for yourself. In the end, it won't harm to have it. One thing to consider as well, if you are cold emailing someone about a writing project you're interested in doing for them, they don't know you or anything about you so having a portfolio to send them to gives them a chance to get to know you a little bit and gives them some examples of your work. In the end that could make or break the acceptance of your proposed submission.
