Singapore is known for being the central business hub of Asia. For that reason, this country will need lots of workers. If the Singaporean population can’t suffice all these jobs, the companies will opt to hire foreigners. For that reason, many foreigners go to Singapore to work in these companies. Thus, these workers need to go under the work permit Singapore process.

Getting a work visa in Singapore is not that difficult. It is a very straightforward procedure. You just need a Singapore employer or employment agency that will sponsor your application. Once you get a job offer from a Singapore company, you can now go through these five steps in getting a work permit Singapore card.

Step 1 - Application submission

The submission of the work visa application will be done by the Singapore employer or employment agency. They should get written from the foreign worker in order to apply for the work permit. Then, they will log-in to WP Online and fill out an application. There is a fee of S$35 per work permit Singapore application.

It will take at least one week for the work visa application to be processed. Thus, it will take a week before finding out if the application was approved. If approved, log-in to WP online and print the In-principle approval letter (IPA) and work permit application. In the IPA, make sure that the details of the foreign worker matches the information indicated in their passport.

Step 2 - Worker’s arrival preparation

The employer needs to buy a security bond for the foreign workers before they arrive in Singapore. The security bond insurer should send the necessary details to the Ministry of Manpower immediately so it will take effect once the worker arrives. The security bond form should also be signed and submitted to the Ministry of Manpower. Aside from that, you should also buy the foreign worker medical insurance. Once the foreign employee arrives, they needed to be undergo a medical examination by a Singapore-registered doctor

Step 3 - Get the work permit Singapore issued

The next step is to get the work visa permit. This step should be done by the employer of the foreign worker. They should register that residential address and mobile number of the worker using OFWAS. Then, they need to wait for at least an hour before going to WP Online to request for a work permit. Upon the requesting, it is necessary to indicate where the work permit Singapore card should be sent. In addition, they can indicate up to three authorized recipients of the work permit card.

The employer should also pay S$35 for each issuance of work permit. Lastly, they need to print the notification letter. The notification letter will serve as a temporary work permit of the foreign worker while he waits for the card. This only has a month validity that can be extended.

Step 4 - Fingerprint and photo registration

The foreign worker should register their fingerprints and photo if required. The schedule for registration will be indicated on the notification letter. However, they will need to register to get an appointment. The work visa fingerprint and photo registration will be done at the MOM Services Centre – Hall C. The foreign worker should bring their original passport, appointment letter, notification letter, and other documents listed on the notification letter. These documents will be submitted for verification.

Step 5 - Receive the work permit Singapore card

The last step in getting a work visa is receiving the card. The work permit will be delivered in the address given usually four working days after the foreign worker registered their photo and fingerprints. All authorized recipients of the work permit card will be notified of the delivery one day in advance through SMS or email.

Once the work permit card is received, the foreign worker should download SGWorkPass. Using the application, they should scan the QR code on the card in order to check their work permit Singapore status, the expiration date, and other necessary information.

If the card delivery process was not delivered on the first attempt, they will deliver it again for the second time. In the event that the card is not delivered successfully for the second time, the worker or the authorized person can collect the work visa card at the service desk of MOM Services Centre – Hall C. If the worker will be the one to collect, they need to bring their passports and notification letter. If the authorized person will collect it, they need to bring the authorization letter from the employer and their NRIC or passport for verification.
