How Google Workspace Can Help You Grow Your Business

Google has been making a series of changes to its productivity apps and the result is Google Workspace. Some of the recent changes have also been on account of concerns from the ongoing pandemic while most others have been coming for long. All such changes forged together has given birth to Google Workspace and for most of us who are familiar with G Suite, Google Workspace can be understood as a new avatar of the erstwhile G Suite, albeit with several desirable changes.

Google meet

Most of you have by now noticed the newly introduced Google Meet that is available on your Gmail frame itself. Apart from this Google Workspace also includes Google Workspace business, Google Workspace Services and Google Workspace support for people who may have some teething problem using Google Workspace. Google Meet has been particularly relevant in the wake of the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic. While the global economy has nosedived and many individuals and businesses continue to save their businesses from crashing, many others are taking full advantage of the internet to sustain and ensure business continuity. Most part of the business and personal communication has also moved to online platforms due to the social distancing stipulations from respective governments. A large number of IT employees are now working for home and reliable connectivity is critical for this new normal.

Premium features for G Suite customers

At the start of its transition to Google Workspace, al customers on G suite were given access to many of the premium features and also quickly added a free version across its user base to compete with Zoom. Today, anyone with a Gmail account can access Google Meet and even more, functionalities are being added to Google meet on an ongoing basis. With more and more educational institutions moving to the online platform to conduct their regular classes, Google workspace is also focused on the needs of this segment. Many experts opine that Edutech will increasingly harness the power of the internet in the coming days. Integrating Google Meet with Gmail has also made it a comprehensive workspace. On iOS and Android, a feature allowing users to view upcoming calls and quickly start new calls is also offered.

Demystifying Google Workspace

The erstwhile G suite has now been enhanced to Google Workspace bringing all features of G-suite and many other added features under a single umbrella. Though the effort may appear to be a rebranding exercise, in fact, the transition is to a significantly more advanced work platform. Google has rightly taken note of the increasing popularity of the work from home culture and is expecting even more employers to harness this culture in the coming days since it presents a win-win bargain for employees and employers alike. Many experts also hold the view that work from home has come as a positive impact from the ongoing pandemic.

Explore Google Workspace to see the large basket of features

G Suite and Microsoft Office belong to different eras and both products reflected the demands of their times. Working from large offices was the norm when Microsoft Office was created. But, Google Workspace has come at a time when employees can work from anywhere and that has caused an exponential rise in the demand for reliable web connectivity so that businesses can stay productive. Google has also carefully assessed the needs of this new segment of work from home employees and the focus has been on the ability of users to manage their time. Being able to execute all tasks from just a single-window as against working with multiple browsers and moving between them is what Google Workspace presents now. Further, all the tools necessary to achieve this is right there on the Gmail page and one can simply click the open instant message, video calling or email all from one page.

Away from simplifying work, there are also other features which Google is planning to integrate into Google Workspace such as creating new documents directly from the chatbox and also allow users outside a team or company to even edit the contents in the document. You may also see the PIP or picture-in-picture soon on Google docs, sheets and slides to enable collaboration in real-time.

Affordable too

Google workspace services have also made some changes to the G suite pricing. However, most customers will not be impacted by this change. Google tools that most of us have been using in association G Suite would continue to be available with Google Workspace and therefore moving from G Suite to Google Workspace will not be disruptive for customers using these tools in their routine activities. On the other hand paid users already have access to Chat and Rooms via Gmail and a new icon with a 4 colour icon incorporating calendar, Docs, Drive and Meet for Gmail is also in the offing. Tiered pricing that starts at $6 per user moving p to $18 per user based on the size of the business is also available to paid users.

Perhaps, Google has also rightly sensed the present and future needs of its free as well as paid users and created Google Workspace pretty quickly to save significant time for the users. Accessing multiple applications from the same browser makes it very convenient for all users and more so for the large work from the home population. Triggering video calls from presentations, creating a document from a chat window and similar features are also expected to be introduced soon into Google Workspace. These features however may be initially offered only to paid customers. Look out for the new Gmail icon with 4 colours when most of the new features would also be seen on Google Workspace.

Conclusion

Google Workspace is not posing any significant threat to Microsoft office for now, though Google Workspace does indicate things that can be expected in the days to come. Microsoft can also be expected to take note of Google initiatives and follow suit soon.
