What does it mean for a business to go digital? This topic gets covered quite often because, even though there are certain steps to undertake no matter what kind of business is to become digital, it is also true that every business needs to adapt unique features required for a digital transformation. In the following piece we are going to discuss a roadmap to highlight the most important moments that accompany digital transformation of any business model.

The most important, and indeed the truly unique, contribution of management in the 20th century was the fifty-fold increase in the productivity of the manual worker in manufacturing. The most important contribution management needs to make in the 21st century is to increase the productivity of knowledge work and knowledge workers. – Peter Drucker

Web

In the following article we are going to focus on mobile app development because 2010s have been a decade of mobile transformation. Everything that has been accessed through your desktop or laptop before gets done via smartphones now. Services migrated and duplicated their offers to be available to their users 24/7 no matter where they are. All you need to buy your new shoes or schedule an appointment with a hairdresser is internet connection. That’s the way. Nevertheless, web services still deserve an honorable mention.

Most of the business operations have gone to the web in the 2000s. In 2010s those that were already on the web migrated to smartphones. Today you have no choice but to be present in the computers and phones of your users.

Most of the projects require both web and mobile development to succeed. Rarely a business model relies only on either one of them.

Mobile Apps

The newest and most widespread tendency is the disintegration of big monopoly platforms and even further disintegration of smaller ones. What does it mean? It means that in the years to come there will be more local AirBnBs and the Ubers instead of these platforms dominating international markets worldwide. Local communities and different cities around the globe definitely express the intention of cutting the middleman in order to avoid commission fees. Companies around the world can afford their own Ubers because the underlying technology of this app has become so widespread it is now very simple to copy.

To go digital in 2020 requires developing your own app. It should also be marketed properly to avoid competition from tech giants like the aforementioned Booking.com, Amazon, AirBnB, etc. Mobile apps create the ecosystem that attracts user’s attention. When your business is just another tab in the browser, your users pay less attention to it. But when your business that serves specific purpose has its own icon and place on the screen, things get really serious.

2010-2019 The Decade of Digitalization

Now is not the time to reshape your business to suit the smartphone users (which is, like, everybody now). If you have survived the aughs without, at least, screen-adjusting your website, it is a pure coincidence that you’re still profitable. And if you’re not, the absence of your own app is the sole reason of it.

Did you notice that people around you are all in their smartphones? Probably not ‘cause you’re in your smartphone as well. Anyways, that is where your business should be to need the demand. Whether you own a laundromat or sell ice cream, you definitely use SMM (social media marketing) to promote your proposition online. And the next step for you is to have your own app for further branding, marketing, and expansion of your business.

Big companies like Google and Microsoft offered their users magnificent products that became inseparable from using your computer or smartphone. It is now time for much much smaller companies to unite and fight against monopolization of the corporations like Uber, a corporation without shame that, although it has inspired us all to live Uber-like life with everything on-demand, nowadays has almost nothing to offer that other companies lack.

Wrapping Up

Your business will succeed only if it succeeds in digital media sphere (the internet). Therefore, your marketing strategy and project development as a whole should be focused on being ultra-accessible to your future users. It means shortening their customer journey and making ordering services from you or buying your products as easy, fast and convenient as possible. And that requires making your own app that will engage users enough to convert them into not just clients but loyal customers.
