Geostorm

It doesn't just conjure natural disasters but thoughts of the future

The movie ‘Geostorm’ conjures an apocalyptic scenario when a program used to safeguard earth, Dutch boy, begins failing due to a virus.

A completely separate scenario came to mind while viewing this film the other day. The film shows a surge of storms wreaking havoc on society making roads and daily life impossible. The viewer see's just how detrimental the effects of weather disasters can be and why ignoring the warning of environmental warriors might not be such a good idea. However, as an American watching this movie it is hard to put yourself in the scenario. Whereas war torn nations basically are living through these exact scenarios. The ground seems to open and swallow whole houses or cars, consume inhabitants and leave nothing but destruction. During all of this, much like the characters of this movie, the inhabitants must carry on and continue with life while trying to save and preserve a way of life. I felt devastation for people who have lived through this. Fighting the forces and elements of the universe and a force that wishes harm to the whole system. In the movie the program is a bit like what you read about the god Zeus. With lightning striking given targets and blocking paths showing the full wrath of the more powerful. I was in awe when thinking of this fact while watching the movie. It is amazing that some nations are still here represented by kind folks who have lived through scenarios like these, but instead of weather it was bombs. As we all progress into the future climate is as much a threat as actual war. Just ask Greta Thunberg.

Second, it made me consider if it would ever be possible to control weather. In the UAE they have capabilities to make it rain any time they want by way of cloud seeding. This is one step closer to weather control. It would be wonderful if scientists could create a matrix with drones or maybe part of a Dysons sphere swarm that could send out electrical currants or something to disrupt air currents that cause a tornado. This would help home insurance costs in the areas that experience tornados. If there was a way to stop lightning so a person never had to fear getting caught in a storm again. Even more out there, but for the eco warriors, if there was a way to have a partial Dyson swarm that was part solar and could control the amount of sun rays allowed through while also creating power and saving it or channeling it for other uses. Thus, alleviating the immediate threat of global warming. Dutch boy on a smaller scale, but possibly one day a full protection system like in the movie. We already have an example of what could go wrong so the safeguards needed could be expected.

On the flip side of this, what if a country learned to control weather and cause tornadoes or lightning at a whim. This would be a more environmentally friendly alternative than bombs. What would this mean for war? It would be fighting the literal forces of nature while fighting an invisible powerful god-like force.

The movie itself is everything you want out of a sci-fi action disaster movie. It has moments of whit, cute banter, love and camaraderie and plenty of disaster. The hyper intelligent aspect of an algorithm linked with satellites to protect earth makes for a great sci-fi premise that doesn't seem improbable from the direction humanity is advising to. It is an interesting fast paced watch that I am personally happy to have had the chance to watch recently even if I'm a little late to the party having been released in 2017.

Sometimes you read something or watch something that makes you think. Out of this thought comes a concrete idea. An idea that you may have thought about before, but never written down. This was one such invention. Without the exact avenue known with whom to share it nor the time or money to fully research it, you write it down. A writing that needed to be expelled from yourself. This is such a writing. A writing for the inventors out there, the adventurers of new frontiers, the childish dreamers, the science nerds. It's short. Enjoy.

Tornado Current Disruptor Project: Experiments & Purpose Outline

Mission: To disrupt air currents in tornados and cause the tornado to ultimately be eliminated.

Hypothesis: Creation of small rubber coated capsule with opening on bottom. A propulsion system or pulse emitting system will be encapsulated inside. The open end will release an electronic, magnetic or electromagnetic pulse/propulsion that will help disrupt the air currents inside of a tornado. A single device not enough, but when distributed with hundreds or thousands may make enough disruptions to cause significant changes in current, pressures and composition or structure of particles.

Hypothesis for distribution: Trial of three methods.

1. Tornado picks up devices by way of placing them in the tornados route/path

2.Devices are thrown into the tornado from the side.

3.Devices are air dropped in from above

Related Hypothesis for Findings:

1. Find if it is possible to weaken currents to any significant degree.

2. Find if materials can withstand conditions

3.Find Tornados carrying capacity for device

Suspected Needs of study:

1. Find the smallest propulsion system with greatest emitting force

2. Physics studies and tests conducted with various rubber thicknesses

3.Manufacturing tests for creating a sturdy capsule that holds and is binded to propulsion mechanism inside

4.Device shape tests and weight tests for best lift and being held inside the tornado

5. Possibly studies with whirlpool simulations in lab or other wind tunnel experiments. Possibly using something similar to skydiving simulation wind rooms. Find a way to simulate tornado conditions in a 'vacuum' in a lab scenario.

6. Find number of pulses/propulsion needed to cause an effect

7.See if Chemical Propulsion is another option

7. See if any results show promise to continue research.
