Working from home has been popular for years, and since 2020, it seems more people want to jump on the bandwagon. Honestly, I can’t blame them. From parenting to commuting to mental or physical health, it’s just the ideal solution for many people.

If you’re someone who is looking to work from home, you’re in luck because there are many opportunities available, and you’re sure to have the skills in at least one area. Then again, you may already work from home and want to expand, or you simply want to supplement your income regardless of where you work.

I’ve decided to start a mini-series for those who want to explore more work from home options. I doubt I’ll post the entire series back-to-back because I have other post ideas, but at least you won’t get sick of seeing the same topic over and over, lol.

For now, I want to explore virtual work-from-home jobs, and I’ll explore other (non-virtual) ideas in a future post.

1. Freelance Writing

There are many individuals and companies looking for a skilled-writer to create content for their blog, website, social media, newsletter and ads. Now, you may want to narrow down your jobs to your area of expertise, such as child care, law firms, traveling, or automobiles. There are writers who are comfortable with handling various niches, so this may be a matter of personal preference. Of course, you want to ensure your content is error-free and original.

2. Website/Graphic Design

If you have the skills to create a logo, social media cover header or an entire website layout, you may have a future in website design or graphic design. Those who are just getting started or choosing to revamp their business need someone who can create an eye-catching logo or a visually-appealing website. In some cases, you may be hired to create designs for prints such as business cards, flyers, and brochures.

3. Social Media Management

Now, you may need more experience in this field, but there’s always room for social media managers. Some business owners simply don’t have the time to keep up with their company’s social media accounts. As a social media manager, your job is to create content, schedule posts, and engage with visitors, as well as keeping up with trends, build a community and create marketing strategies.

4. Virtual Assistant

There are many people who are looking into positions as a virtual assistant. As a virtual assistant, your job duties may include managing email accounts, managing contacts, making phone calls, scheduling appointments and meetings, and making travel arrangements. Depending on your client’s needs, your duties may also include preparing spreadsheets, creating presentations, maintaining online records, and market research.

5. Data Entry

Data entry has been around for many years, and you can add it to your list of possible remote jobs. As a remote data entry clerk, your job is to enter information into an online database. You most likely need typing, transcription, data-collection skills for this job. Plus, you need to be familiar with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and similar software. Luckily, many places offer entry-level positions and may offer training for those who are just getting their feet wet in this position.

There you go — five virtual positions to consider if you want to start working from home. Every job has its requirements, workload, and pros and cons, so it’s always best to do your research to ensure the position, or the client or company, is right for you.

Whichever road you take with working from home, I wish you the best and hope you find a position that makes you happy!
