If you're a high school student, chances are that you are looking for a job. It's something most teenagers need to do in order to get their first set of wheels, save for college, or even plan to move away from home or see the world. You know you need to work, but you're not sure who is willing to hire someone who is young and inexperienced. Take a look at five of the top companies to work for when you're still in high school, and see what you can do to get on the road to bring home your first paycheck.

1. McDonald's

McDonald's is a popular place for many young people to work. They are known for hiring high school students and give young workers a chance to learn about the restaurant industry. Not only that, but you'll be able to work in different areas, from prepping food to greeting customers and helping with their orders. You can learn new skills that you can apply to other jobs too, such as working under pressure and finding solutions to customer issues.

2. Chick-Fil-A

Chick-fil-a is another restaurant that is known for hiring teens, and it comes with plenty of benefits. Besides being part of an industry that teenagers commonly work at, Chick-Fil-A offers plenty of chances to grow and move up within the company. That means even if you are a teenager, you could become a manager of a store provided you work hard and show dedication to the job. Many young people want room for advancement at the company they work for, so this could be a useful start if you are ready to commit to someplace. Make sure to check the Chick Fil A hiring age before you apply, and make sure they will hire you at your age.

3. Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart is a popular option for young people who want to work in a setting that offers them variety while learning valuable customer service skills. If you'd rather avoid food service, you can try your hand at retail and learn about cashiering, stocking, and work in a variety of different departments in order to pick up extra hours. This can be ideal if you would prefer a change of scenery and don't want to be stuck in the same area all the time. Just as in other companies, Wal-Mart offers the ability for you to move up if you desire it.

4. Clarie's

If you have an interest in accessories and fashion jewelry for young women, Clarie's could offer a fun option. Here you'll be responsible for helping customers with purchases, putting out new stock, and helping the store to run promotions. If you're already interested in fashion and jewelry, this might be something fun to do so your job feels less like work and more enjoyable. You might find yourself working in a mall, but there are some stand-alone stores, too, so know what your choices are where you live.

5. Disney

Disney is a household name that everyone knows, and working for this employer can add a boost to your resume, regardless of where you are working. You could work in a theme park, or even in a Disney store that is inside a mall. Disney hires teenagers and offers the opportunity for advancement, so you can move on to something different if you find where you are working is not the right fit for you.

There are many options when it comes to finding work as a teenager. Becoming employed by any of these companies can help provide you with a boost in your resume and show future employers that you have desireable skills that can translate to a variety of other positions. You might also get benefits you wouldn't find at smaller companies, such as education assistance, so consider making the move to one of these companies as you work to build your resume for the future.
