Evolution, the Big Bang, Creationism or something beyond

Expanding my mind beyond the banalities of TV, Cinema and trivial pursuits, to ponder the possibility of our world moving forward with hope, and upliftment

The trivial and banal that surrounds us everyday, are leading to chronic boredom and ennui. Granted some of us are fine with it. Others like myself, are looking to expand our minds with a greater purpose and mindset, that eliminates the everyday drudgery and reach for a higher purpose for our minds, bodies and souls.

With the recent events unfolding, notably, the Corona Virus and the many lives lost, followed on it's heels by an unprovoked and uncalled for war in the Ukraine by Russian insurgence, more lives lost needlessly, we are left with all the many different discussions on the age old question, "Is the world finally ending?" I am watching and listening to the alarming number of things that we rely on Russia to provide to the world at large. From oil, wheat for our bread, computer chips from Ukraine, to diamonds, among the most obvious commodities, we seem to be at each other's mercies.

I have started to research the many things mankind has done to contribute to the world ending being a real and possible phenomenon.

Will we ever find the answer to the questions "why are we here?" "what is our primary purpose?" "to what end is life followed by decay and death?" Do we already have the answer. Could it be as simple as the fact that we were actually created by a living entity to worship it, to procreate, multiply the earth, love and care for one another, and have blind faith that our lives are mapped out on a literal 'Wheel of time'. From this premise, should we not just sit back and accept that we are nothing but tiny automatons, intelligently designed to fit our ultimate purpose, then accept death as our final reward or judgement.

I firmly believe that the greatest discovery of mankind, would be to unearth and ascertain the secret of the power behind the ability to unlock one hundred percent of our brain's capability. Sure, some of those great discoveries, like Einstein's Theory of Relativity or Newton's (falling objects and planets are subject to the same forces)(proved or disproved), shows that some of us are more capable of unlocking greater facets of the the brain than others. Alan Turing built his computing machine in the 1930's that helped to win world war two. Neil deGrasse Tyson is an inspiration in narrating the mystery of the Cosmos and the vast mystery still to be discovered.

These scientists, who proved and disproved, and are still researching theories, are they more intelligent than the rest of mankind, or is it that the theory that Einstein and Newton may have had Autism, or Asperger Syndrome, a form of the disorder that did not affect their learning capabilities, Turing was, I believe, a tortured lovable narcissist, incapable of exhibiting feelings for anyone or anything that did not interest him, (a classic Sherlock Holmes syndrome). Did a flaw in their characters account for their superior intellect. Were they flawed though? There are so many question without answers.

Intellect comes in so many forms, there is Shakespeare, and T. S. Eliot, Maya Angelou, Margaret Atwood, poets and authors, whose written words continue down generations, without losing their potency. We have the Walt Disney of cinema and entertainment. Writers, Producers, Directors, Musicians, Educators, people from all walks of life whose works seem far more developed on a plain far more intellectual than the average human capability. Huge strides in Medicine, Brain connectivity, cures for many ailments and so much more. "Why is this?" Are our brains wired differently. Are the rest of us just too lazy to tap into the might and power that is embedded in each of our individual psyche, or are we doing what we were designed to do.

I sometimes ponder the sum total of the uses of my own brain, for there are times that I feel the forces of nature so entirely, that it brings tears to my eyes. How do I tap into these feelings and unravel the messages that the universe is trying to impart to me. I have communed with silent voices that I hear speaking, not intelligible words, but quiet entreaties, so pleasing to the spirit, that one would actually say "speak, for I hear you?" communing with me through space and time. "Put you ear down close to your soul and listen hard." (Anne Sexton)

On the point of science, I started reading about CERN's Large Hadron Particle Collider. It is is located in the European particle physics laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. The science behind it seems to stem from back in the 1950's, which shows man's enormous appetite to find his reason for being. Maybe, even wanting to find the secret to the actual creation of life.

'CERN is the site of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest and highest-energy particle collider. The main site at Meyrin hosts a large computing facility, which is primarily used to store and analyse data from experiments, as well as simulate events.

The World Wide Web began as a CERN project named ENQUIRE, initiated by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 and Robert Cailliau in 1990. Berners-Lee and Cailliau were jointly honoured by the Association for Computing Machinery in 1995 for their contributions to the development of the World Wide Web.

Based on the concept of hypertext, the project was intended to facilitate the sharing of information between researchers. The first website was activated in 1991. On 30 April 1993, CERN announced that the World Wide Web would be free to anyone. A copy of the original first webpage, created by Berners-Lee, is still published on the World Wide Web Consortium's website as a historical document.

Prior to the Web's development, CERN had pioneered the introduction of Internet technology, beginning in the early 1980s.

More recently, CERN has become a facility for the development of grid computing, hosting projects including the Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) and LHC Computing Grid. It also hosts the CERN Internet Exchange Point (CIXP), one of the two main internet exchange points in Switzerland. As of 2022 CERN employs ten times more engineers and technicians than research physicists'.

The Large Hadron Collider is the most powerful accelerator in the world. It boosts particles, such as protons, which form all the matter we know. Accelerated to a speed close to that of light, they collide with other protons. These collisions produce massive particles, such as the Higgs boson or the top quark.

A quark (/kwɔːrk, kwɑːrk/) is a type of elementary particle and a fundamental constituent of matter. Quarks combine to form composite particles called hadrons, the most stable of which are protons and neutrons, the components of atomic nuclei.[1] All commonly observable matter is composed of up quarks, down quarks and electrons. Owing to a phenomenon known as color confinement, quarks are never found in isolation; they can be found only within hadrons, which include baryons (such as protons and neutrons) and mesons, or in quark–gluon plasmas. For this reason, much of what is known about quarks has been drawn from observations of hadrons.

Many questions on top of question now become more puzzling, especially to the minds of those who have not particularly studied science or are privy to the many quizzical terms used to explain the intricacies of the scientific world.

The more questions I ask, the more complicated matters become. Still, I shall try to delve into the sea of science.

What Is The Purpose Of The Large Hadron Collider?

The primary reason for designing this machine is to expand the knowledge we have of the universe. This machine could enable scientists to make numerous interesting discoveries, which, when applied, will profit humans and the planet.

How dangerous is the LHC

'For various reasons over the years, people have speculated that experiments at CERN might pose a danger to the public. Fortunately such worries are groundless. Take for example the N in CERN, which stands for "nuclear", according to UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). This has nothing to do with the reactions that take place inside nuclear weapons, which involve swapping protons and neutrons inside nuclei.

CERN's research is at an even lower level than this, in the constituents of the protons and neutrons themselves. It's sometimes referred to as "high energy" physics, but the energies are only "high" when viewed on a subatomic scale. Particles inside the LHC, for example, typically only have the energy of a mosquito, according to the LHC Safety Assessment Group's safety report.

People have also worried that the LHC might produce a "mini black hole," but even if this happened — which is unlikely — it would be unbelievably tiny, and so unstable that it would vanish within a fraction of a second according to the safety report.' (Andrew May's article on 'Space').

Threats of black holes, nuclear annihilation, wars, epidemics, pandemics, endemics, man made viruses, genetically modified food, doubtful use of technology, cryptocurrency and it's massive use of energy, these are just the tip of the iceberg in the ways that we are slowly bringing about our own demise.

I do not intend to be a prophet of doom and gloom. By all means we should live our best lives, be as happy as we can be. We must also be aware of the world around us, and the possibility that we are contributing, albeit unaware, to it's downfall.

There are people doing great things every day all around us. There are also people doing the small things, though also great on a different level. All the sum total comes together to form a complete whole. For in order to make the great machine that comprises the continuation of our existence, we all need the participation of each of the components of the machine, both great and small.

We should therefore, proceed with care, and be mindful of the well being of all. We are only now, hopefully bouncing back from two years of intense stress and painful isolation, now faced with the reality of a new war being waged by yet another tyrant.

It is not too late to make a fresh start and be a little more aware and mindful of this planet that we call home. We should try to live a little greener, both literally and metaphorically.

Pay it forward. Give back.
