It wasn’t until the potato crops failed that they realized the new world was a challenge to adapt to. Relocating to South America to live a refreshed life after changing their identities. The long war had become a distant memory as their new surroundings felt more vivid and alive. Healing the scars of a brutal existence took time, although they were responsible for its structure. They were a small group of top advisors under Adolf Hitler. The tropical island was located off the Caribbean coast where a distant house stood. It was the new home of the few former gestapo, now dressed in common attire. Their SS uniforms stuffed away in old trunks, their Nazi swastika well hidden. How they legally maintained with homemade documents was uncertain. Spending their days planting in fields was a daily routine that became exhausting in the hot summer sun. Herr Ruby described it as psychologically feeling a loss of himself. Being a part of a orderly empire of strict domination was slowly draining their spirits. They missed most of all, their leader, who mysteriously vanished to where no one knew. One day a strange woman showed up at the doorstep. She was dressed like a native girl standing at the porch stairs. How did you get here? Ruby asked inhaling a pipe of homegrown tobacco. I took my boat. She pointed to a small row boat next to the shore. What do you need? The spirits of your past called me, a man trying to find you. Please go back, this is private property! The wind picked up sweeping her scarf around her alluring face. Ruby blinked twice as he noticed her facial structure resembled Marlena, except for the dark hair. Her cheek bone’s expression just the same. It was a angel’s face, the blue angel that was so easy to become memorized with. He decided on hearing her intentions. What did the spirit tell you? That it is extremely important that you use my help to contact the departed spirit of the fuhrer himself. Her Brazilian eyes beckoned, the accent not German but pleasing. He asked for her to come closer. She seemed to move with the wind, a spirit herself. Sitting next to him on the porch swing, the distant flamenco birds drinking at the shore. She was close enough for him to study her face. She became illusive like a dream, reminding him of his past. What do you know of our leader? I know you miss him and I have a way to conjure his presence. Her big eyes creating a spell. How? By using the spirit ball! She took out a crystal orb kept in her purse. We shall have a seance! I just require a few candles, and a table of course. And he will appear in the room? I have have been a spirit medium for a long time having the fortunate gift of spirit communication. It is possible since I have had ghosts of the departed appear before. In your case, it seems urgent. She uttered this as the sun set behind her. He decided to show her inside. He offered her a glass of lemonade. As she removed her scarf, her beauty captured his emotions. I don’t have candles, will a oil lantern work? He showed her a old oil lamp from a ship long ago. He lit it to her approval, setting it down on the table. Please call any others, I shall require a full table to preform. The psychologist who lived there along with two other former soldiers came down the stairs. Dressed in appropriate smoking jackets they gladly joined in on the mysterious women’s request. Meine guten Freunds, The fraulein is going to conjure the spirit of the fuhrer! Ruby exclaimed while lace curtains blew in the summer breeze. They sat together at the table while the lantern burned. She began. Please let us all hold hands. They did as she asked. And close your eyes. The crystal orb was placed in the table center. She chanted his name, calling his ghost, explaining that he was in the astral world. Caught in a void between two worlds, he had departed, his soul did not. The man grew quite and did not interrupt. Then something happened, a flickering of the lantern with the soft breeze becoming intense. The lace tablecloth flew up in the air, tearing away from the lamp, knocking it over. The wind howled and slammed the windows shut. The seance became pitch black. The lamp went out as the window shattered its glass. Please remain seated, the circle must not be broken! She shouted, as overhead was heard a faint familiar voice. Someone took a match and relit the lamp. The fire was strong enough to reveal a face staring down at them from hovering above. The Fuhrer! The X soldiers were bedazzled by the vision. He Floated in a filmy ectoplasm as the medium kept her hands upon the sphere. The spirit of their leader could not speak, but his moaning was distressing. The vision lasted only a few moments, and then was gone. The experience left the gypsy women drained of energy She fainted, breaking the spell. The lantern went dark, as the room became cold. Ruby carried her frail body to the sofa. The Doctor brought smelling salts. Ruby exclaimed how pleased he was from seeing the ghost. He wanted to pay her, reaching for money in his pouch. She lay speechless as if in a silent movie. He slipped the coins into her purse, adorning her. She smiled a relieving smile as the other house members retired to their rooms. She sat up, telling him that it was late. He walked her to the door, back to the porch where the encounter had begun. Kissing her hand gently he asked for her to come back. I have never known anyone as interesting as you. I will, she said walking away underneath a waxing moon. He stood for a long time, looking up at the sky in complete admiration of a woman that brought him closer to his desires.

Great story! I struggled with the texture/ structure of the story though.
