With industrialization and the construction industry on the rise, an adequate conveyor system has become an essential need. Transporting goods from one place to another relies on a conveyor system and is required in different stages of industrial work. Goods lifts or freight lifts are one of the widely used conveyor systems for industrial and warehouse applications. These lifts are mainly used in commercial buildings such as department stores, supermarkets, construction sites, factories and warehouses.

Goods lifts come in different sizes and models to suit both residential and commercial applications. With installing such lifts, you can avoid carrying heavier packages and loads up and down the stairs. Consider your requirements, you can opt for goods lifts with lighter or heavier capacity or can customize it to make it exactly meet your needs and specifications.

When using high speed goods lift, or any kinds of powered access equipment, safety must be the top priority. Goods lifts have a wide range of applications in different industries for providing access and height as well as lifting and transporting goods. Also, these aerial work platforms are available in different sizes, and styles from the narrow compact lift with restricted access, to industrial sized platforms that need to reach bigger heights.

Similar to any other machinery that is used to work at an elevated position, there are some risks involved with using a goods lift. However, the problems and issues that arise can usually be avoided by following good practice guidelines.

Here are a few common issues that you might encounter when using a high speed goods lift:

Excessive load capacity

The loading capacity of the goods lifts differs as per the make of the lift with maximum to 50 tons. If the load capacity of a goods lift exceeds its maximum limit, it may affect the platform’s support or balance which further can cause machine failure. Thus, it's recommended to check the manual to ensure adhering to the load capacity. If your application needs more load capacity, go with the customization option to accommodate your requirements.

Inappropriate use

The lifting equipment comes with certain guidelines according to which it can be safely used. Not following these guidelines may lead to hazardous situations. Indoor designed lifts should not be used outdoors and vice versa, also, check the fuel type you are using is safe for the location you are working. Most accidents and injuries occur in the powered access industry which is caused by the operators using equipment for the wrong purpose.

When dealing with heavy loads, the reliability of the equipment is a vital aspect to consider. Even for bulky and awkwardly shaped objects, goods lifts are just not reliable, but also safe and rugged only if you are using it as per the guidelines.

Poor Condition

Goods lifts and other warehouse machinery should be regularly maintained and repaired to keep them in good working condition. Load and weight tests should be done to ensure safe operation. Under no circumstances should freight lifts be used for carrying passengers unless the equipment fulfils all requirements for passenger lifts. Also, all the workers should be clearly instructed on the threats of inappropriate use of goods. Check your equipment every six months to ensure it's working correctly and never ever use lifting equipment that is faulty or damaged in any way.
