Vocal readers, please enjoy our interview!

Tammy Reese:

What inspired you to get into the media industry?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

I love the idea of being a storyteller and the ability to share your ideas with the world. Media is one of the most expressive vehicles that allow you to reach so many people. I enjoy repurposing my content to find new audiences and sharing my particular style that exudes confidence, intelligence, and a light-hearted sarcasm to the mix. I find that podcasting is my favorite platform where I get to share unbridled wisdom and personality via Real Ass Affirmations. A close second is followed by a video, whether it be being interviewed or interviewing others, both bring a feeling of comfort due to the storytelling aspect.

Tammy Reese:

Please tell me about the Give it to the People lifestyle magazine?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

Give it to the People was a way for my husband and me to collaborate on our time during Covid. It was well-received as we shared how we kept it interesting while at home. It includes recipes which people were able to experience via live streams. It brought people into my world, which I have never done before. It also opened up a space that allowed me to show people who and what makes me happy. I really love the images because I feel that same happiness every time I look at the magazine.

Tammy Reese:

What are some of the proudest moments in your career so far?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

My proudest moments have been completing my book, The 90 Day Focus: Your Action Plan for Success, which is still helping people. I use it as a tool to get people on a path of clarity with their goals and to market their businesses in 90-day increments. It has made me most proud this year to help so many business owners affected by Covid to start and stay in business using my methodology. I have seen great progress in their sales, grants, and the fact that all of my clients are still in business and looking forward to what's next is a testament to the confidence I was able to give them.

Tammy Reese:

What have been some challenges?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

The biggest challenge was being at home on lockdown. The world felt so cold and uncertain. That feeling subsided once I started teaching 1-3 webinars per day and dealing with multiple clients. The challenge then became staying extra organized and focused on getting work done. To combat this we created a daily, and weekly to-do list that was tied to a monetary goal. It gave the flexibility to have a half-day or even a full day off as long as you understood that the work was still waiting to be accomplished.

Tammy Reese:

How has the pandemic shaped your day-to-day life?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

During this pandemic, my husband was furloughed. It helped us to really see what the other needed to be happy and keep us a productive unit. My husband has helped so much in my business and that has helped to tremendously grow the client base. He is excellent at organization and follow-through which helped to tighten up any loose ends I had.

Tammy Reese:

What are you currently working on?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

I am currently working on creating multiple Virtual Business Summits for a number of organizations. Since starting this business one thing that has always worked well for me was event planning and specific business functions. Now, I am working to bring awesome education for small business owners in one-day increments that allow them to focus on specific skill sets . My clients typically find this very effective because people are willing to take off one day to learn what they need to get ahead.

Tammy Reese:

What other projects should we be on the lookout for?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

Real Ass Affirmations will be approaching year two and I am excited to record additional episodes and some of them will have visuals to accompany them.

Tammy Reese:

What do you want your legacy to look like?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

I want my legacy to look colorful. I want people to know that was a funny, confident woman with principles. She stood for women, blackness, loved her husband and she was unapologetically dope in her pursuit to Give it to the People.

Tammy Reese:

What advice would you have for anyone who wants to follow your career path?

Chisa Pennix-Brown:

I would join organizations that can provide connections for your growth. Having people on your phone who will pick up is part of it. However, having people that say yes, when you need something puts you ahead of the others that are vying for your place. This all stems from you having a great work ethic and being reliable which makes people trust that whatever you put out will be quality.
