You can be the smartest, most talented, and most passionate educated entrepreneur, but none of it matters unless you have a well-trained team willing to move forward toward a common vision and the realization of the company’s goals. The number of new businesses in Australia has declined and the number of business failures has risen since 2015, and while there are many reasons behind that, a good team would do everything in its power to avoid being a part of those numbers. So, without further ado, here are a few team building exercises that will transform your workers into a dream team ready to have your (and each other’s) back whenever necessary.

Scavenger huntThere’s nothing like a good old scavenger hunt to shake things up a bit at the office and generate great team building results. How? Well, hunting for mystery objects and deciphering puzzles can improve the team’s problem-solving skills and their reliance on one another. To give the traditional scavenger hunt a touch of the modern world, use technology such as digital cameras and smartphones. Moreover, there are some scavenger hunting apps that can make your work a lot easier. Also, the items they are searching for should be business-related.Float out afloat

This terrific team building game challenges groups of employees to make a vessel fit for a water race, but the only materials they can use are cardboard and plastic. Precisely because building a vessel out of those two seems impossible, the teams can get really creative and inspired by a healthy dose of competition. Float out afloat emphasizes the value of inventiveness, hard work and working together.

Road trip

Company road trips are classic team building experiences that existed even before we were aware of the term “team building”. People become closer on trips, they get to know each other better and they learn how to function as a team. Just make sure that the trip is not too long and exhausting and that the destination has something interesting to offer. Hiring a Sydney to Canberra bus for instance, sounds like a good idea since the trip is not too long, and visiting the capital is never a dull experience.

Paintball

Team building exercises are supposed to be fun, and what can be more fun than a chance to spend some active time in the beautiful outdoors and shoot some coworkers while you’re there? All jokes aside, paintball truly requires working with your team members and devising different strategies to accomplish mutual goals, all of which can be useful skills back in the office. If Sydney paintball terrains aren’t enough for you, you can always combine the road trip with this exercise and head further outside the town.

Building blocks

Sometimes, you just need a simple team building game that will not require too much time or brainstorming but will still create a sense of connection and understanding between the players. Well, do you have some Legos? You can challenge the teams to reconstruct the appearance of an already built structure or you can ask them to create anything they can imagine with a certain number of Lego blocks.

Volunteering

As of recently, giving back has become a very popular team building activity. Just like the above mentioned games and activities, this one focuses on the team spending time together and learning valuable things about each other. However, volunteering can create an even stronger bond, because it produces deeper emotions. Also, it sends a good message about your company and your employees.

A strong team is your biggest insurance that if things go south in your company, you will have a safety net to land on. The best teams don’t just fall from the sky – they are trained and made stronger with carefully chosen activities designed to nurture team spirit, confidence, trust, strategic thinking and continuous learning.
