From their scrappy beginnings in a California garage to selling out arenas worldwide, the band has weathered breakups, health scares, tragedy, and triumphant reunions.

Blink-182 is one of the longest-running pop-punk bands of all time. Formed in 1992 in California by bassist and co-lead vocalist Mark Hoppus, guitarist and co-lead vocalist Tom DeLonge, and drummer Scott Raynor, the band has become a defining force in the genre. Over three decades, they have released nine studio albums, weathered multiple line-up changes, and inspired generations of fans with their infectious energy, irreverent humor, and surprisingly heartfelt lyrics.

The band's journey has been anything but smooth. From Raynor's departure in 1998 and replacement by Travis Barker, to DeLonge's two extended hiatuses, to Hoppus's battle with cancer, Blink-182 has faced countless obstacles. Yet, through it all, they have remained a beloved fixture in the music world. Here's a look into the lives of the members of Blink-182, then and now.

Mark Hoppus: The Constant

Mark Hoppus is the only member of Blink-182 to appear on every album they've released. Born in Ridgecrest, California, on March 15, 1972, Hoppus received his first bass guitar as a gift from his father in high school and taught himself to play by listening to bands like the Descendents and The Cure. He was studying to be an English teacher at Cal State San Marcos when his sister Anne introduced him to DeLonge, and the two formed Blink-182 in August 1992.

Following the band's hiatus in 2005, Hoppus formed another group with Barker called +44, releasing one album, When Your Heart Starts Beating, in 2006. He also formed Simple Creatures with All Time Low's Alex Gaskarth in 2019. Beyond music, Hoppus has been a part-owner of Atticus Clothing and Macbeth Footwear, established his own company HiMyNameIsMark, and hosts a podcast called After School Radio on Apple Music.

In April 2021, Hoppus was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. He underwent five months of treatment before being declared cancer-free in September 2021. "I keep writing music, and I'm open to whatever the next phase of Blink is," he told PEOPLE. "I'm hopeful for the future. I'm just damn glad to be here." He released his memoir, Fahrenheit-182, in April 2025.

Tom DeLonge: The Dreamer

Tom DeLonge was born in Poway, California, on December 13, 1975. He met Raynor in high school and, after being introduced to Hoppus in 1992, the three formed the first iteration of Blink-182. DeLonge was a primary songwriter on the band's first five albums and is known for his humorous, often juvenile lyrics, a style he once joked was because he "never had time to go to college or grow up."

DeLonge left Blink-182 for the first time in 2005, citing differences in priorities with his bandmates. He formed Angels & Airwaves, reuniting with Blink in 2009 for Neighborhoods before leaving again in 2015 to pursue other interests, including his fascination with extraterrestrial life. He founded To the Stars, a science fiction media company, and executive produced the History Channel docuseries Unidentified: Inside America's UFO Investigation.

After years of minimal contact, DeLonge reconnected with Hoppus in 2021 when he reached out for help with a divorce paper and discovered his former bandmate's cancer diagnosis. "We've been able to completely repair that friendship and really cut to the depth of who we are as people," DeLonge told Apple Music 1. He officially returned to Blink-182 in October 2022.

Travis Barker: The Survivor

Travis Barker was born in Fontana, California, on November 14, 1975. He played in several punk rock bands before joining the Aquabats in 1994. When Raynor left Blink-182 in 1998, DeLonge and Hoppus asked Barker to fill in, and he learned 20 of their songs in just 45 minutes. His first album with the band was Enema of the State in 1999.

In 2008, Barker survived a deadly plane crash that killed four people and left him with third-degree burns on more than half of his body. He didn't fly again for over a decade, finally stepping on a plane in August 2021 with the support of his wife, reality star Kourtney Kardashian. "I'm invincible when I'm with her," he told NYLON. The couple welcomed their first child together, son Rocky, in November 2023. Barker opened up about the traumatizing ordeal in the 2026 documentary Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear.

Scott Raynor: The Original

Scott Raynor was the original drummer of Blink-182, helping form the band after meeting DeLonge in high school. He played from 1992 to 1998 and was featured on Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch. Following his departure, he went on to perform in several other bands, and in 2023, he became a member of the San Diego Police Department.

Matt Skiba: The Fill-In

Matt Skiba joined Blink-182 in 2015 after DeLonge's second departure. Already familiar with the band from opening for them in 2001, Skiba accepted the offer to replace DeLonge while balancing his commitments with his original band, Alkaline Trio. He contributed to Blink-182's California and Nine. When DeLonge returned in 2022, Skiba gracefully stepped aside, telling Vulture, "There's no bad blood, there's no drama... It's just the next chapter in the band's life."
