In today's world where nobody is perfect, but yet they pretend that perfectionism is within them. But we, as writers, have the title of the Humble Community. Do you know why? It's because even the great writers (the greats of the greats) use spell checkers and grammar checkers to make sure that their every word is correct.

That's what makes me think that writers are the Nobel ones who don't ever let their ego take over their minds and they always start as humble as they can. Proud of you writers.

I'm also using a tool to correct my spelling mistakes as I'm writing this article because I know that I'm a humble student of writing not a perfect Godfather of it.

Let's talk about the real issue. There are hundreds of tools that could help you improve your writing, but which one should you choose. As technology and innovation are bringing new possibilities to the market every single day. The tools that were only able to check spelling mistakes are now checking grammar mistakes, writing style errors, plagiarism, and even checking writing mechanics is possible by the tools that use AI technology. There is no need for a proofreader who charges $200 to proofread your book. Now you can get the same amount of value in a $20 per month subscription.

As I said there are hundreds of writing tools that you can choose or at least you are confused about choosing one. I'm not going to review all of them. I'm just reviewing 6 tools that I have personally used or have some experience trying.

1- Grammarly

Grammarly is well known among modern-day writers. It's a Spell checking, grammar checking, and plagiarism detection tool. But Grammarly also uses AI (as they advertise their AI technology) to help you better interact with your writing style, getting rid of all Typos from your writing, minimize redundancy and improve your word flow and sentence structure.

Earlier this year they also announced a new type of editor that is specially designed to improve your focus during your writing, make you more productive, and goal-oriented. Editing is easy in Grammarly editor, as they highlight the word or sentence which needs to be changed or improved. And they also provide you the replacement word or sentence, or any other suggestions and ideas that could improve your writing.

They also have a readability score, which tells you how well your overall writing is. And they will suggest you new words or sentences and highlight the parts of your writing where you have to be more clear.

Other Features:

  • Personal Dictionary
  • Uploading Documents
  • Downloading Documents and Printing
  • Setting Goals
  • Proofreading
  • Plagiarism Check
  • Phone call service to solve the problem of the customers

2- Hemingway

Hemingway is another great tool that most writers use. Their interface is really easy to use and simple. You don't have to create an account to access it. Their homepage itself is the editor.

The thing that I liked the most about the Hemingway tool is that they have a distraction-free mode as well. You can switch to the distraction-free mode and all the suggestions, errors, and notifications will disappear and you have a clean editor to start writing your thoughts. And once you finished your writing, then you can off the distraction-free mode and then the tool will start its work.

This tool also provides you the same features and functions as Grammarly. They also have a readability score and all other functions. But they also show you the number of words you wrote, the number of verbs in your writing, the number of nouns in your writing, and they even tell you the reading time for your writing as well.

This tool is available online on their website, also on Android and iOS, and they also have an app for desktop. They have a feedback section and a helpline where you can contact them for any of your queries and they will respond to you.

Other Features:

  • Inbuilt Text Editor
  • Distraction-Free Writing Mode
  • Works Offline
  • Publish Directly to WordPress and Medium
  • Web-Ready Writing
  • Import and Export Features
  • Working with Colleagues

3- Prowritingaid

Pro-Writing Aid offers world-class grammar checking, spell checking, and style checking tools, combined with more in-depth reports to help you strengthen your writing. It is accurate for fiction writing and a good option for fiction writers. I've seen a lot of fiction writers who love using Prowritingaid.

They also have an active support team and support system than any other writing tool. The ProWritingAid support team is available via email, and response time is a maximum of 24 hours.

It helps you strengthen your writing skills and writing style with complete feedback about your writing. As I said it's a godsend tool for fiction writers. Pro-Writing-Aid is best for handing in fragmented sentences and dialogue. It can be a useful tool for fiction writers.

Other Features:

  • Grammar checker and spell checker
  • Find repeated words
  • Context-sensitive style suggestions
  • Check the readability of your content
  • Visualize sentence lengths and variation
  • Sticky and clinches
  • Overused words
  • Consistency checks
  • Echoes (Check the words and phrases that are repeated in proximity)
  • Proofreader

4- Ginger

Ginger is another tool to help you enhance your writing. You can check your spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes using this basic tool. But I recommend this tool for beginners only. If you are intermediate or professional then this isn't going to help you that much. Honestly, ginger's accuracy rate is lower than other writing tools that we are discussing here.

But still a simple and easy-to-use tool.

Other Features:

  • Grammar Checker
  • Sentence Rephraser
  • Translation
  • Punctuation Checker
  • Spell Checker
  • Essay Checker
  • Online Proofreader

5- Quillbot

The Quillbot is a free tool that is dedicated to paraphrasing that is used by a lot of writers. The tool is among one of the amazing paraphrasing tools and also has features related to SEO. So, if you are writing for websites and your content needs to be SEO optimized then this tool could help you a lot in your journey.

It also has a spell checker, synonym suggestion, and a better sentence formation tool. You can optimize your emails, essays, articles, and even social media posts. Over 30 million people are using this tool worldwide, which is proof this tool is trusted by millions.

Other Features:

  • Summarizer
  • Word Flipper
  • Statistics of Your writing
  • Different Paraphrasing Modes

Find out more about Quillbot on their website.

6- TurnItIn

This is another great tool to have but it's more focused on the teaching side. If you are a teacher and need a tool to help you in your daily activities, then this could help you a lot. It helps you in Gradescope, grading your students and other assignments, revision assistance that allows teachers to provide feedback on a student's work.

But at the same time, you can use this tool as a spell checker, grammar checker, and plagiarism detection tool. This tool allows your students or co-workers to upload their works and assignments and you can access the files on your computer and can easily check and rearrange them. And the good thing is, as you check the errors and mistakes the students will not know that they have made mistakes. The editor and all the other functions are only available for you.

Other Features:

  • Plagiarism Detection
  • Grades are transferred directly to NEO
  • Detailed feedback to students
  • Accepts different file types
  • Automated searching tool
  • The Reports provided within 24–48 hours
  • Detects when students try to “trick” instructor or teacher by spinning content, adding sentences, reorganizing papers

Conclusion

These were the tools that writers need to improve and enhance their writing style and career. I'm not going to set any winner for this article because everyone has a different perspective and a different need. So all the details and features are given above, you can choose any tool that meets your own requirements.

I'm not giving any link to any tool. You can just search their names on Google. And I wanna disclose that I'm not an affiliate of any of these tools. And this article isn't sponsored by any of these tools.
