Opposition leader Raila odinga has officially announced his intention to contest for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. The former prime minister says he has consulted widely before deciding to throw his heart in the ring to succeed the outgoing African Union chairperson Musaf Faki Muhammad. As soon as he annouced his bid he immediately got the endorsement of African Statesman and former president of Nigeria Alon Obasanjo. Both the retired Nigerian president Alon Obasanjo and Right Hon.Raila Odinga put to rest speculation about his move to Continental politics."I should vie the leadership of Africa Union because i think they want my services and am ready to offer my service to this continent."Raila Odinga. The move to seek the commission's top leadership is driven by his desire to bring social and economic change in the continent that continues to lack behind despite being rich in both natural and Human Resources. This announcement has gotten support from former Nigerian president Alon Obasanjo who had to say this."A person, man or woman who has experience who understand the situation we are in now, who comes from a background that can make huge difference has the right of seeking to succeed outgoing chairman."Musaf Faki Mahmad is serving the last year of his ten year and anyonehas the right to be elected as the chairman of the African Union commission. The chairman also serves as the CEO of Legal Representative and he is also the Chief Accounting Officer. The holder of the office serves for a 4-year term renewable for two terms, meaning if the candidate gets the position he could serve for a maximum of 8 years. During this time he will be prohibited from participating in local politics.Hon.RailaOdinga said he is ready to comply with the requirement and is ready to oblige if elected.Meaning he will be working for Africa in the period he will be in office he will not be required to participate in Kenyan politics. He also added that he will not fail to participate in kenya politics forever forever but is only during the period he is in office,"only means that during that period I cannot participate in Kenyan politics but before pulling back from the Kenyan Politics."On account of the Au job he will have to first convince the country in the region and the continent to cast their votes for him on the ballot. He also asked her friend to continue to be a good Ambassador and talk to the people elsewhere in the southern region has had a chance the central has had twice but the West has also had an opportunity so one of the key elements was that alphabetically if you go in terms of regions this provides a good opportunity for the East African region to provide the leadership for the African Union Commission. The African commission from 2003 the Au has had five people serving in the capacity of the chairman including Musaf Faki Mahmad of Chad who is the outgoing one Kazana Damini Zuma of South Africa, Jen Ping of Gabon Alpha Omar konar and Amar ESS of Civo who served in the transition period between the OAU and the AU all this hailing from the West Central and South Africa. When the seat is declared vacant in July this year,Raila Odinga will be hoping that the country(Kenya) and the East African region will throw their weight behind his bid to become the first East African to head the organization.By this now Raila Odinga who is the ODM Party leader will quity his position as the chairman of the party inorder to fucus to travel around the Africa Continent to lobby for votes.
