Asia-Pacific Insurance: New Leadership Appointments Signal Regional Expansion
Canopius, HDI Global, Lockton, and Manulife Strengthen Teams as Competition for Specialist Market Share Intensifies

A wave of senior leadership appointments is reshaping the Asia-Pacific insurance landscape, with four major organisations announcing key hires across Hong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne, and Manila. The most significant strategic moves come from Canopius and HDI Global both actively building specialist underwriting capabilities while Lockton and Manulife complete the round of regional executive updates. Collectively, these appointments reflect a broader industry conviction: Asia-Pacific remains the world’s highest-growth insurance market, and capturing opportunity demands deep, experienced leadership on the ground.
Canopius: Building Specialised Capacity Across Disciplines
Global specialty (re)insurer Canopius has unveiled three concurrent appointments covering claims, property, and credit and political risk all joining in the final quarter of 2026 marking one of the most substantial regional leadership expansions this year.
Richard Adamczyk assumes the role of Senior Claims Manager, Australia and New Zealand, effective September 28, based in Melbourne. He brings a distinguished track record spanning more than two decades in complex insurance claims. Adamczyk joins from the Legal Practitioners’ Liability Committee, where he served as Head of Claims. Prior to that, he spent 15 years at AIG, rising to Head of Financial Lines Claims, Pacific a position that placed him at the centre of some of the region’s most significant professional indemnity and financial institution loss events. His background combines deep technical expertise with market-leading management experience, strengthening Canopius’s ability to handle high-value, complex claims across ANZ.
Louise Wai takes up the post of Head of Property Direct and Facultative, APAC, on November 1, based in Singapore the region’s key property and casualty hub. Wai arrives from Helvetia Swiss Insurance Company’s Singapore branch, where she served as Underwriting Manager for Engineering and Property Solutions across Asia. With more than 25 years dedicated to regional property underwriting, she possesses an intimate understanding of market dynamics, risk accumulation, and catastrophe exposure from Northeast Asia to Australasia. Her appointment underscores Canopius’s ambition to expand its direct property footprint alongside its established reinsurance portfolio.
Jack Hullah becomes Head of Credit and Political Risk, APAC, on November 10, also based in Singapore. He joins from AXA XL, where he was Regional Product Lead for Asia Credit and Political Risk. With over 15 years across credit strategy, political risk analysis, structured finance, and regional business development, Hullah has operated at the intersection of trade, investment, and geopolitical risk — a space growing in importance amid shifting supply chains and heightened global uncertainty. His arrival positions Canopius to capture a larger share of business requiring sovereign risk cover, trade credit protection, and investment guarantees.
SK Lee, CEO Asia Pacific and MENA at Canopius, confirmed the appointments are part of a deliberate, multi-year strategy: “These three practitioners bring proven market standing and deep technical expertise to the teams brokers and cedants engage with directly. We are not just filling seats we are strengthening the core capabilities that underpin our promise to deliver consistent, authoritative capacity across complex lines of business.”
HDI Global: Targeting North Asia Leadership in Property and Marine
HDI Global has made three high-profile appointments in Hong Kong, all focused on extending the company’s influence across North Asia — a region defined by dense industrial activity, massive infrastructure investment, and increasingly outward-bound multinational enterprises.
Rebecca Kong joins as Head of Distribution and Strategic Partnerships. With more than two decades in commercial insurance across Greater China, Kong specialises in multinational programme design and distribution network optimisation. She was most recently in senior distribution and strategic planning roles at AIG China, where she helped structure and scale some of the market’s most significant cross-border insurance arrangements. Her mandate is to deepen broker relationships and identify new institutional partnerships that accelerate HDI’s reach.
LiLian Lau is appointed Head of Property. She brings over 20 years of experience spanning property, construction, natural resources, and risk engineering sectors central to North Asia’s economic expansion. Lau joins from Allianz, where she led Greater China Natural Resources and Construction and managed underwriting teams in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Her background bridges technical risk assessment and large-portfolio management, making her ideally positioned to lead HDI’s push into major industrial and commercial property risks across the region.
Rebekah Khew takes the role of Head of Marine, bringing three decades of marine insurance expertise covering cargo, project cargo, and marine liabilities. She was most recently Director, Asia-Pacific, at Vivace Insurance Partners, and has held senior positions at leading carriers throughout her career. Khew’s appointment signals HDI’s intent to become a top-tier marine provider capitalising on Hong Kong’s historic role as a shipping hub and the sustained growth of intra-Asian and transpacific trade.
Michael Ahn, CEO of HDI Global Hong Kong, outlined the strategic vision: “We have long held strong positions in liability and engineering. These appointments extend our leadership into property and marine two lines where North Asian demand is robust but capacity is often fragmented. Our goal is clear: to become a preferred carrier for major property risks, specialist marine and cargo business, and international programmes that support North Asian companies expanding into new markets including fronting and risk-sharing solutions that align with cedants’ capital and regulatory needs.”
Lockton and Manulife: People Solutions and Operational Excellence
The expansion extends beyond underwriting. Lockton the world’s largest privately held independent insurance broker has appointed Victoria Yow as Head of People Solutions in Hong Kong, leading employee benefits, health, wellbeing, and people risk advisory services. Yow brings over 15 years of Asia-focused experience, having served as General Manager at Pacific Prime Insurance Brokers, leading a team of more than 120 professionals. Earlier roles include regional and local leadership positions at Cigna, Mercer, Now Health International, and AIA Singapore. Cedric Luah, Regional Head of People Solutions Asia, noted: “As multinational firms recalibrate their benefits strategies across a post-pandemic landscape, the depth of Victoria’s experience spanning insurer, provider, and broker perspectives is exceptionally valuable to our clients.”
In the Philippines, Manulife has named Erica Jurilla Santos as Chief Operations Officer, effective September 15, with a seat on the executive committee. She oversees operations strategy, service delivery, digital adoption, and customer-focused innovation. Since joining Manulife Business Processing Services in 2022, she has led a 600-strong team supporting the company’s US insurance business across new business intake, policy administration, and life and health claims. President and CEO Rahul Hora highlighted her proven record in transformation and operational resilience. Santos herself emphasised the human dimension: “Operations is not just about efficiency it is where customers and advisers experience the company. My focus will be building simpler, more responsive ways of working that make insurance easier to engage with at every touchpoint.”
Competition Heats Up
Taken together, these appointments reveal a consistent industry pattern: Asia-Pacific is no longer treated as a secondary market or a source of volume alone. It is a priority for capability building, leadership investment, and long-term positioning. For brokers and corporate buyers, the result is greater choice but also a more complex landscape where the right local leadership can make all the difference in securing capacity, navigating regulation, and delivering responsive service. As competition intensifies, the firms that have placed experienced, well-connected leaders in these roles are positioning themselves to define the region’s next chapter.
