UTP VS STP Variants: -

There are generally two types of Cat6 plenum pure copper cable according to its shielding feature. One is called UTP (Unshielded Twisted pair). The other one is called STP (Shielded Twisted Pair). Both variants have their qualities and features.

STP cable has an extra shielding on its conductor wires in the form of foil covering. In some cables, each conductor wire pair is shielded separately with a foil sheet. Whereas, in most cases, all four pairs are shielded altogether with a foil sheet. In UTP cables, this extra foiling shielding is missing.

STP cables are more efficient in comparison to UTP cables due to their better performance against interference factors. Similarly, the UTP cable is popular among users due to its less cost in comparison to STP cables.

The jacket of this cable is a special one. It does not catch fire easily. A special material Polyvinyl Chloride makes its jacket fire-retardant. It is the safest option to install in the plenum spaces of the building. Even if the fire catches this cable. It does not produce any toxic smoke that can be harmful to humans.

This cable is available in the market in different colours as well. You can select the colour of your own choice. It is available in red, black, blue, yellow, and many other colours. The availability of the cable in different jacket colours allows the network engineers to design their networks systematically.
