A Pocket-Friendly Option For Grammarly Premium

Grammarly is probably the go-to tool for any writer who wants to start his writing journey. 8 months back, when I began my writing journey on Medium, I was unaware of any such tools.

After the first few stories and post joining a Facebook group of writers, someone raised a topic related to it. That was how I got introduced to Grammarly. It was essential to me as English was not my native language.

I was quick to download the chrome extension and started using it for free. While it helped me find my spelling error, the experience was not that great. That what MS Word can do for me. So then, why are the tools so popular; I was unable to understand.

I still used it while writing. As with any other software, the Grammarly extension always showed you the spelling errors, but it also showed you the error-related to the construction of sentences and phrases. However, this feature was for paid members, and we could only guess and figure out the correct answer.

When I raised a question on the FB group on whether one should try out the premium tool, the unanimous answer was a BIG YES. I desperately wanted to improve my writing skills, so I went to the pricing section on their website.

$29 pm, are you crazy? I was shocked to see the price tag from a company that gives a free extension. That was too high a price tag for me. I had just started my writing journey and was already paying for my Medium membership. The initial few months had earned me only a couple of cents. So going with a $29 price tag was out of the question.

Nevertheless, I did register for a one-month free subscription. Now I had my Grammarly Premium even though for only 30 days. I started writing and fell in love with it. The difference between the free and premium plans was immediately apparent, and so was the reason behind its popularity. It also had a plagiarism checker as a bonus.

The first experience blew my mind. I was not a grammar expert, but I knew how to write. The suggestion on Grammarly Premium was next level. I never knew that there was something called an active and passive voice. I was not aware of using unique or repetitive words and their impact on your narration. Fragmenting a sentence to make it user-friendly was unknown to me. The alternate word function was also of great help.

27 days later, after registering for a complimentary premium account, I got an email. My account was expiring in 3 days, and they wanted me to renew my subscription with a 10% discount. I knew the price was still on the higher side, and the current ROI was not justifying a purchase.

I was sad that day. I had started to love writing on the Grammarly editor. The insights and suggestions were a great help in elevating my writing skills. But now everything was going to end in 3 days. I was going back to old school.

I felt anxious and started looking frantically for an alternative to get Grammarly premium for cheap, if not free.

Let me tell you, the internet is filled with some useless suggestions, which I doubt even work. Ranging from some free coupon codes (which never work), affiliate marketing, discount coupons to stealing logins from .edu websites. Most of the suggested options are either not sustainable or too complicated without any results. They would land you up in more issues rather than solutions.

I was feeling disappointed when out of nowhere, I found gold — a Grammarly Premium for an affordable price. This option was easy to use and had limited risk since the subscription was at a dirt low price of $ 3 per month. I decided to give it a try.

Using Grammarly for $ 3 (no affiliation to the website or any tools it provides)

What helped me cut my cost is a website called Flikover.com. It’s a group buy SEO tools website that gives memberships to 20 top-rank tools at an affordable price. I am using it for the past two months and happy with what I am getting.

There might be similar websites offering such software, but I cannot comment on them as I have never used any other website.

Step by Step User guide

Register yourself by visiting flikover.com (avoid fakes — the website is flikover.com)

Once registered, log in to your account and go to the dashboard (refer to dashboard image on top).

On the dashboard page, click on the “Visit Here” button; below any tool that you are interested in buying. If you want to buy the combo pack of all tools, you can click on the “Buy Combo” button.

You will be taken to the tool page to show your subscription status.

5. Click on “Buy now,” and you will get the period for which you want to subscribe. The more the number of days, the bigger the discount. Click on the period of subscription as per your requirement.

6. You will reach the below page where you need to click “Pay Now.”

7. The system directs you to the final gateway page for selecting the payment method of your choice and input payment details.

8. Post successful payment; when you come to the dashboard screen and click on the selected package, the screen similar to the one below would be displayed.

9. At this stage, you will have to download the Flikover1 & Flikover2 chrome extensions and enable them.

9. Once done, click on “Click here to access Grammarly Premium,” and you will be taken to the Grammarly premium editor.

10. You are done. Now you can start using Grammarly premium for writing your stories.

Based on my experience, here are the pros and cons if you wish to try this option.

Pros

It makes Grammarly premium affordable to low-budget users.

You can use the subscription as per your need. I buy the monthly pack whenever I want.

Regular writers can save extra by buying the packages with a higher number of days.

Cons

1. You do not get the plagiarism checker with this package. This is probably the most significant disadvantage for me. But I can manage it with free alternatives.

Solution :

I use the free plagiarism checker by smallseotools.com to check my story’s plagiarism, and the results are satisfying. It supports only 1000 words at a time, and I split my story to check duplicate content free.

2. It works only with a Chrome browser. So if you use any other browser, you will have to install chrome. Unfortunately, I don’t have a suggestion for mac users.

3. It will not work on mobiles. You will have to use chrome browser on your desktop or pc only.

4. Your document may be visible to other users. Since this is a shared resource, there are times when the dashboard shows all the saved documents to other users. It means others can read your copy. There is a simple trick which I use to overcome this constraint.

Solution:

I draft my story in Medium or Vocal.Media editor and paste the final draft in the Grammarly editor. It also avoids any unnecessary distraction of making corrections during writing. After completing the final editing on Grammarly, I cut paste the final draft on platform editor, and continue to format the title, subtitles, images, and text. Finally, I allow the blank document to autosave on Grammarly, so all traces are removed.

Final Takeaway

Grammarly premium helps me a lot in drafting my stories. It’s like a tutor behind your back who keeps reminding you of any errors in your writing. Getting to use the premium version for such a low price helps me in managing my budget.

I wrote this story to benefit other writers like me, who have turned to online business opportunities due to the pandemic effect. While the price tag of $29 does not seem much to the western world, it is a significant amount for people from Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Also, it a cheap option that helps writers who are beginners and hardly earn anything from their writing.
