Writers want the same things. They want to share their writing, make an impression, get noticed and feel appreciated for their work. There may be variances between writers as to how they define appreciation. Some writers want to be popular, and for their work to be read by as many people as possible. Other writers want to become as wealthy as the greats of writing, like J.K. Rowlings.

Whatever drives the writer, one thing can help writers achieve popularity and prosperity through their work. That’s exposure. With every exposure to their writing, there is the chance that the viewer opens the page, clicks on the link, and reads. Online and self-published writers market on social media. Published authors will push their books through Instagram and other social media, like TikTok. Are you?

If not, continue reading and I’ll demonstrate how to get your writing on Tik Tok and potentially tap into a market with billions of prospective views that could become your next followers, readers, and even referrals.

Posting Written Content To TikTok

TikTok is primarily a video and image-sharing platform. Originating out of China and a sore spot for American politicians, TikTok has over a billion followers and that’s a large number of prospective readers. One-eighth of the population of the planet uses TikTok, either to view or to post content. So, why not try using TikTok to post your stories and tap into more than a billion people as prospective readers?

How to post stories to TikTok:

  1. Open a TikTok account if you don’t have one.
  2. Pick the story you’re using and save an image to your phone.

I chose my best story from January 2023 to try out on TikTok to see how many views and reads I might get over time. Fingers crossed, but after looking up different hashtags and seeing the number of views on TikTok, it’s encouraging. Once you’ve saved your image from your story into your photos, it’s time to move on to step three.

3. Once you’ve saved your photo, you open up TikTok and go to the bottom of the screen. Find the plus or add-icon in the center and press. This will open up the image page with the camera. This is where you’ll pick the image you saved from the story you’re posting.

4. After you press the plus icon on your phone, you’re on the camera screen. From there, you can upload the photo that is from your story.

5. After pressing upload, you come to the screen to set the image and make edits, adjustments, and add text. It is up to the user how they want to make it look and what music they want to play when people see your post. Just press the music icon at the top center and scroll through hundreds of available songs until you find something that fits your post.

When you’ve finished setting how the post will look, you’ll move on to step six by hitting Next at the bottom right of your screen.

6. At the top, to the left of your image, you can type in a description of your post. What’s your story about? Why should people copy the link and read your story? Tag your followers, pick the location, and use hashtags that fit your story. Most important, don’t forget to put the link in the description.

You’re done. Hit post and watch your views go up. This isn’t going to be an overnight fix, but a tool that can get your work out there to over one billion people and a growing audience.

Conclusion

We’re all looking for the same thing, views, and reads. TikTok has over a billion users as of the last report and that’s a market worth tapping into if you’ve never tried. It’s not that complicated once you are familiar with the application and the steps to post your stories.

Reads equal notice. Reads equal money. Reads equal feedback that helps us all improve our writing and connect with our audiences. Why would we leave the over 1 billion prospective readers on Tik Tok out of the equation, the millions of Instagramers, and the hundreds of milllions on Twitter?
