9 Additional Ways to Earn More Money with Your Articles

Work only once, earn many times

When people ask me how I do so many things simultaneously, I always tell them the same thing: I’m only working once, then I only adapt it to the platform. One of the many wonderful things about being content creators is that we don’t have to focus on just one platform as long as we understand how they work.

The advantage of having our content on different platforms is that we have a different audience which allows us to keep growing even if it is the same content. For example, Romauld Fons, a famous Spanish Youtuber, explained in his video “How much YouTube Paid me 2020” how he is earning more than $5000 monthly despite not uploading any recent content:

“First, I created videos everybody wants to watch every day, week, or year. Second, I didn’t focus on a single platform.”

He basically used the same content for all the platforms he could to earn more money with the same single content repeatedly. Although some content works better on one platform than on another, once you have the fundamental idea, it is only a matter of adapting it to your audience.

In this article, you will see 9 additional platforms on which you can earn money with your posts, so you can diversify your earnings.

1. Use the power of the evergreen post for multiple platforms

There are multiple platforms where you can put the same content as long as you have the rights to them, for example, your personal blog, Medium, newsbreak, Vocals, and Quora.

The best part of creating content is that if it’s an evergreen post, it will continue earning money over time on all those platforms. So if you had projected that you could make 5 dollars a month on one platform for a year, then if you decide to publish that same content on 5 more platforms, you will have at least $25 a month.

2. Make a newsletter

Email marketing is the most direct and effective way to communicate with potential clients since those who sign up for it are those who are really interested in your content. There are many ways to convert your articles into emails and earn money from them. For example:

Posts with affiliate marketing: It basically sends a post with affiliate links. In this way, all your subscribers will read your article, and if they are interested, they will enter the external source. For example, Zulie does this technique to get people to read her latest blog post from her and YouTube videos:

Sell a product or service: This is the most common form of Email Marketing. Big companies like Amazon, Nike, Fashion Nova, and Adidas send their products to their subscribers so they can buy if they are interested.

Paid newsletter: Sinem Gunel, Amardeep Parmar, Zulie Rane, and Michael Thompson created a Paid Newsletter that is giving them 5 figures annually.

The advantage that newsletters have over articles from different platforms is that you can be as clickbait as you like since the people who are subscribed are people who are really interested in hearing from you.

3. Create a book

If you have a defined niche, you can create a book with a set of your most popular articles and sell it. For example, if you talk a lot about self-improvement, you can make a book of the best tips for personal growth.

The book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*CK” by Mark Mason is a set of articles he published on his blog about happiness. He decided to make a book with it and sell it first on Amazon. The book generated almost 2 million copies in its first year alone, and it’s been #1 on the NYTimes Bestseller list.

4. Podcast

The success of podcasting around the world is not a secret. The ability to multitask, different topics, and a new modality are some of the reasons they are so popular. Here are some current statistics for podcasting in 2021, according to Brandastic:

55% of the US population have listened to a podcast

In 2020 more than 155 million people listened to a podcast every week

24% of the US population (68 million) listen to multiple podcasts weekly

Podcast listeners consume an average of seven different shows per week

There are over 700,000 active podcasts and 29 million podcast episodes available

The most popular age group for podcasts listeners is 25–44, which makes up 49% of total listeners

Spotify is now the worlds most popular podcast app, closely followed by the Apple podcast app

If you have a good idea and recurring content with your topics, you would only have to record yourself giving your opinion on this topic and upload it to one of those platforms. You can monetize them with ads, but there are already platforms that allow you to monetize them. Some of them are Anchor, Spreaker, and iVoox.

5. Make Videos for different platforms

In 2019 I started a finance and travel YouTube channel. When I started doing the scripts for those videos, I realized I could write articles with those scripts and post them on a blogging platform.

Currently, making my YouTube videos is only reading the articles that I have already published and that have been popular.

There are a lot of platforms with which you can make money with videos. TikTok has a creator program, Twitch has a creator program, and even Facebook has one too. Those platforms have a big audience that is only growing. If you start a popular channel or page that gets many views, you could make a lot of money from it.

You don’t even need a professional camera to get started. I started my YouTube channel only with my cell phone and a $14 microphone I bought on Amazon.

6. LinkedIn and Twitter

Michael Thompson, in his article “How to Earn More As A Writer by Leveraging LinkedIn,” explained the professional advantages he had on his personal blog after he started using LinkedIn and Twitter to promote their writing:

“In the span of a month, from that one simple link, I’ve gained somewhere between 500 and 750 new followers on LinkedIn, and half of them have reached out to let me know they like my writing. Not only that, but a handful of people, month in and month out, have asked me about my coaching or writing services.”

There are many writers who use these platforms to validate their ideas and test if an article has the potential to go viral with a simple Tweet or thought on LinkedIn.

7. Paid platforms

The internet is flooded with clickbait, and it is difficult to find genuine websites. But there are still many websites that actually pay writers for well-written content.

For example, pages like the New York Times, The Verge, and Buzzfeed pay from $100-$500 per article. And there are different sources where you can find information to be selected as one of its writers.

If you want to review some magazines and publications, I recommend you review these posts from Ashley Broadwater and Ash Jurberg that helped me find the perfect place to start sending applications.

8. Create a course

I know that there are currently many online courses and the chances of success are less than 5% if you do not have a predetermined audience, but there are several good ways to get that public.

People like different styles and characters and learn better from different teaching styles. For example, here, we have several writing courses from many successful authors, and all of them have their own audience because they all have different teaching methods. The key is to be yourself and provide real value.

Your personality and potential teaching style will separate you from the rest, even if you teach the same thing as a lot of people. Here are some examples of people who have been successful in them:

Yaroslav Shmarov created a course and launched it on Udemy, generating 420 sales in 100 days.

Building an initial audience can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. Also, your course’s quality will affect its success, so keep in mind to do something well done from the start.

9. Patreon

Like a paid newsletter, Patreon is a platform that allows content creators to publish exclusive content for a monthly fee. The difference is that with Patreon, you can put certain benefits depending on the type of subscriber you are, and it is used for the most part to support the content creator and not just to obtain a benefit.

To add value to the articles you post on Patreon, you can also offer exclusive content, personalized services, early access to your content, behind-the-scenes content, questions and answers sessions, and ask me anything.

For example, Andrei Jikh is a financial content creator that has a Patreon that leaves him $ 22,061 monthly by sharing their content there first, his stock purchases, monthly dividend statement, and information he finds about shares.

Final thoughts

Content is an asset. You can continue to make money from it if you know how to distribute it correctly. Although there are many options to distribute your articles, in the end, what will make you successful will be the way you decide to publish it and how well you can communicate with the audience of that platform.

But above all, keep something in mind: your ideas have great potential. Don’t be a slave to one place when you can produce more. The goal is not to work hard; it is to work smarter. A content creator's success depends on where he puts his energies and knowing where it is worth growing.
