So you want to write better articles and stories on Vocal? This article will take you through some of the tools I like to use on Vocal. As someone who has been writing as a career for some time now, I’ve just recently discovered Vocal. Vocal is an excellent online media platform that allows you to host your stories and articles and make money off the views that you get. In order to produce high quality articles, it helps to use a wide variety of additional tools to supplement your writing. These allow for a better writing style, more reads, and better formatting for your Vocal articles. All of these tools I am about to tell you about are free to use, but many of them do have additional assets to them that are enabled through a pro plan. I use most of their free plans, but I’ll tell you which ones can be worth investing in if you’re a serious writer like me!

Let’s get Started!

Grammarly:

Grammarly is the most highly recommended writing tool on the market right now. It is excellent at identifying grammar and spelling mistakes, integrates perfectly into your google chrome account and pops up whenever it is needed. This is the one tool that I recommend paying an additional fee for, but only if you’re going to use it enough to make it worthwhile. It’s functionality as a free tool is essentially perfect. If you’re a strong writer, but haven’t always been strong in English in school due to all the nit-picky little problems English has a language, or if you’re a non-native English speaker/writer, this is the tool I would recommend above all others.

Google Drive:

I know that many people write their stories and articles right into Vocal, but I personally find that the google suite as a whole, but particularly Google Docs and Drive allows me to organize and write my stories to perfection and access a wide variety of tools. Once I am ready, I simply copy and paste into Vocal and tweak the articles for formatting. I promise that keeping your articles separate, having access to folders, word counts and spelling checks will help you speed up your writing process going forward.

SEMRush:

SemRush is a keyword research tool. It allows you to target search engine traffic and ranks these keywords based on what you are writing. This tool is perfect for all of you writers wanting to buff up on your SEO skills. It will tell you how hard it is to get ranked on the keywords that you are using, and this allows you to write articles with SEO that can get you higher up on search engines like Google. Unfortunately, SEMrush is a paid product, but it will allow you to search up to 10 times daily for free. If you’re looking into actually getting your articles seen, this is the tool for you.

Unsplash or Pexels:

Both of these websites are searchable image depositories that you can access to find images for your Vocal articles without copyright issues. Unsplash is the site that Vocal uses in-house and is accessible while building your articles, you’ve probably used it already. Pexels is another website that is similar, but I find it has a slightly higher volume of pictures to access. When using either one, be specific about your keywords, and try different synonyms to find the picture perfect image for your article.

Canva:

Last, but certainly not least, Canva is a tool I’ve been using for almost five years, mostly when I am doing social media branding work or creating ads. If you are going to be making ads for your Vocal articles, Canva is a tool you should look into. Canva allows you to create beautiful thumbnails, pictures, text images and even logo design. It has a free repository of different variables you can access, but there is also paid product on the site. Unless your articles are receiving tons of traffic, don’t worry about paying for content.
