Writing as a freelancer is not an easy task. Things can get tough sometimes, especially when you depend on writing for income. Many persons, like myself, may understand the struggles of being a freelance writer. If you plan to start a freelance job as a writer there are 3 things I think you should know. These 3 things I learned through writing on Vocal.

I started writing for Vocal Media 5 months ago. Freelance writing fell like a roller coaster. Sometimes writing is great. Everything seems to place into place. But when writers' block hits, it's like a big truck. No words nor thoughts seem to be coherent at that time.

This article seeks to explain 3 things I have learned from writing on vocal media as a freelancer.

Document your stories even when you aren't sharing them online

Write stories your readers want to read

The aim as a writer is to provide pieces your audience wants to read. Without a dedicated audience, there is no way route to success. It took me a while to realize this point. After publishing 30+ articles, there were a selected few with high views. These articles have continued to gain likes and views as others saw none.

The article with the 2nd most views is similar to my most popular article. At that point, I realized that people will only read what interest them. Though I have read many articles about sticking to a niche, I experienced it for myself.

Since most of my articles are based on health and beauty topics. My audience demands it and thus I will answer. You can read my 2 popular articles:

Find your niche and stick to it.

As a freelance writer, the key is to produce pieces your audience wants to read. A niche is a topic or group of topics you are good at writing and the audience wants to read. Your niche can change, according to what is popular among your audience.

Start writing your adventures Through life

Choosing a niche is easy. It requires knowledge and the ability to construct articles others want to read. To be successful in your niche requires frequent research and hard work. with new and ungraded information produced daily, it is key to stay familiar with the latest information.

Sometimes, changing to another niche would be better. For example, when your current articles are not gaining views and likes as expected. And that fine, find the niche that is suitable for your audience and one that you know.

Keep working hard no matter how many times you don't see results.

The journey of a freelancer is touch and winding. Especially when you depend on the success of your writing as a source of income. Some days are great as views and like and by extension money increases. But there are some days when everything is stationary. Those are the worst.

Freelance writing like any other occupation required dedication and hard work. Nothing comes easy in life. What is more important is the experience and knowledge you gain with every rise and fall. The most successful writers are the more experienced writers.

It is important to never give up writing. During periods of writers' block, it can be extra hard to find the motivation to continue writing. But that is the time you have to push harder.

Let's sum it up!

Writing as a freelancer can get pretty tough. If you are still trying to find your way don't give up. But if you are reading this to find the motivation to start your freelance career, there START NOW. There are 3 things you must understand:

  1. Write stories your audience wants to read
  2. Find your niche and stick to it.
  3. Keep working hard no matter how many times you do not see results.
