Birth of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba — Divine Epic of Lord Shivan in Kaliyugam

Many people think there is mystery in birth of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba. Here is the birth of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba.

There was a small place called Pathri, now called Parbani district in Maharashtra, India. In 1835, There lived a pious couple called Ganga Bhavadia and Devagiriamma. Both were the ardent devotees of Lord Shiva. They lived a very happy life but they had no children.

Once Ganga Bhavadia went to other village for his business. His wife waited for him and it was late night. She took her dinner and went to bed. She heard a knock on the door. She thought its her husband. But there was an old man.

The old man asked Devagiriamma to give him some food. He was very hungry and tired. There was heavy rain too. So Devagiriamma gave him the food. It was the time of traditional India where women were not allowed to talk to any men without her husband at home. Devagiriamma found the old man very tired and hungry so she helped him.

She went back to her bed. Again she heard the knock on the door. She opened to see the old man again. He asked her to give a place in her home. He also requested her to massage his feet as he cannot walk properly. Without her husband, Devagiriamma is not allowed a man in her house and touch a man’s feet. So she asked the old man to wait outside.

She ran through the back door of her house to get help from her neighbors but none helped. So she came back home and sought help of Lord Shiva. Suddenly, she heard the knock on the back door. There was a woman who wanted to stay in Devagiriamma’s house. Devagiriamma warmly invited her to stay in her house.

Devagiriamma explained the whole thing about the old man waiting outside. The woman replied she is the nurse and she can help the old man. She did help the old man. When Devagiriamma accepted both in her house, She had a vision of Lord Shiva and Goddess Gowri. She understood the old man and the woman are Lord Shiva and Goddess Gowri.

Devagiriamma immediately fell at their feet. Goddess Gowri blessed her with 2 children, a boy who can take care of her till her end and a girl who will get married to a good family. Lord Shiva blessed her a third son who is the incarnation of Lord Shiva himself ,is Sri Shirdi Sai Baba.

Devagiriamma revealed all these to her husband in the morning. He did not trust her. Later, when she gave birth to a boy and a girl, he started trusting her words. When she was pregant with third child, she was firm that it was going to be a boy. When she was in her delivery month, Ganga Bhavadia was frustrated to see Lord Shiva so he went in search of God.

Devagiriamma followed her husband but she cannot keep in pace with her husband’s walking speed so she has to stay in a forest and give birth to the 3rd child. As she needed to follow her husband, She abandoned the baby and started in search of her husband.

The baby in the forest, was later found out by a Muslim couple. They raised the child for 4 years. The child behaved odd. He went to Mosque and shouted out “Aum Namah Shivaya” and in temple “ Allah O Malik”. At that time, there was war between Muslims and Hindus created by British Colonists to separate India.

So the Muslim couple left the child in the religious ashram. From there, Sri Shirdi Sai Baba as a 16 year boy made his first appearance in Shirdi, Maharashtra, India.
