Virtual assistance is a great way to make both some extra money and a side income, but can also be a highly profitable business idea.

The great part is that the services you can offer as a virtual assistant are so many, you can be sure you will always have clients if you put yourself out there and do some networking.

Almost every kind of job in the world needs a sort of assistance, and this is where you can make the money.

So here is a small list of 17 services you can offer as a virtual assistant to get you inspired and started.

PS: You can offer some exclusive services based on these ideas and increase your hourly prices up to even $100 per hour.

Organizing Notes

You'll have to organize your client's messy notes into organized documents and sheets, adding formatting if needed, spaces, titles, highlights..

This is something that teachers, professors, coachs, and even students can need, along with every kind of job out there.

Typing Up Notes

On the same note, you can take up typing notes (isn't it cool when it rhymes!!). Your job would be to listen to audio records, videos, podcasts, conferences, online classes etc and take up notes for your client.

Appointment Confirmation

This is great if you hate cold calling. All you'll have to do is to call people to confirm their appointments with your client. Easy, simple and quick.

You can get a free phone number from google (Google Voice).

Data Entry

If you lack some specialised skills or experience, this is a great and easy way to start. It's also the service that can get you lots of clients as a beginner because lots of people hate do it themselves and prefer to hire.

Basic knowledge in Excel or Google Sheets is enough.

Converting Files

Converting file types for your client is a service that is in great demand. And with the help of the web and technology it's something you can do very easily. Many websites do it for you for free, you just have to check for some formatting issues after you convert to insure a good quality work.

From word to pdf or powerpoint, from mp3 to mp4..Easy peasy to start!

Social Media Management & Scheduling

You can offer different services related to social media, from scheduling posts to actually creating content and posts using canva for free.

For scheduling you can use the help of tools such as Planoly, Planably or ContentCal (they're all free!!). This will save you hours and allow you to take on even more clients.

Creating Animations

A great, unique and highly paid service could be for you to create animations for your clients. Whether they own a business, an agency, a blog or a course, everybody knows that videos capture more interest and bring more leads than any other marketing source.

And animations are a fun and entertaining way to advertise and market.

You don't need to to be an expert, most free online tools offer a simple drag and drop system that anybody can learn in the space of a couple of hours.

One unique tool that I've been personally attracted to is Topia, and though I haven't tried it yet, the concept is so inovative, it can give you some ideas;

Online Research

Doing research for other people is one of the easiest services you can offer. You can research anything from articles for esssays to adresses, email adresses, products. You can even focus on one type of research, for example, finding service businesses adresses for you client.

Recruiting & Profile Research

Your clients will be needing someone to do a job for them, could be anything from plumbing to finding a nanny to designing a flyer, they will give you a price and your job will be to find the perfect profile, going through crowdsourcing websites like Fiverr.

Your service could be specialized like finding designers for all sort of graphic design work and jobs.

Fiverr is a great place for graphic designers, social media and content services.

Content Management

Different from social media, since it means you'll have to also post, schedule and manage content on platforms other than social media like blogs, websites, digital magazins, newsletters or online stores for example.

This is something that agencies especially need all the time as well as online businesses. Again, ContentCal or StoryChief are amazing tools to help you take big loads of work without the added hours.

Gmail Set Up

Cleaning up the spam, setting up labels, filters and folders, organizing the inbox. Simple for you, but much needed from your clients since unfortunately this is something that email marketing tools do not cover.

Setting Up LinkedIn Profiles

Setting up LinkedIn profiles or groups takes time. To save themselves this headache, lots of client are looking for this type of service.

Calendar Management

You will be scheduling meetings, adding and setting up reminders for upcoming events and syncing with devices using free online calendar scheduling tools like Airtable, Monday Or Shift.

Work Management

In the same spirit and using these same tools that a lot of businesses work with to manage their work (and that you can get used very quickly), you can offer to organize their tasks and to-do lists for them.

Photo Or Video Editing

If you have some editing skills, you can offer photo editing or video editing services. Or both. Whether it's bloggers, youtubers, small brands, agencies..this is a service that is in great demand all the time.

Making Travel Arrangements

Researching accomodations, calling, booking, confirming and more, your job is to basically handle the travel arrangements for your clients.

It's a simple service that consists of research and phone calling.

Formatting Blog Posts

Lots of bloggers don't want to spend time on formatting their text or post; they write the information and your job will be to make sure the post is clear, understanable and pretty enough to be published.

Apart from freelance marketplaces, you can use networking through facebook groups, LinkedIn, Craigslist and word to mouth. This is something I've personally done, and it worked like a gem.

IMPORTANT: one last tip, if you're thinking about being a virtual assitant in a serious way and making a profitable business out of this, you have to protect yourself legally. Draw up a freelance virtual assistant agreement or buy ready made templates and have your clients sign it. It gives your business more credibility and trust on top of protecting you from loss.
